Sri Lanka gets strategic Fiji ports: Breaking news
Sri Lankas Aitken Spence PLC has been chosen by the Fijian government to overhaul the operation of the countrys two biggest ports, namely Suva and Lautoka.
Accordingly, the Aitken Spence has formed a Private Public Partnership agreement with Fiji Ports Corporation, where both parties will operate under the newly established joint venture Fiji Ports Terminal Limited.
Sri Lankan Aitken Spence will own 51 percent of the shares of Ports.
Speaking during the signing of the deal, the Fijian Prime Minister, said the operations at the two major ports of Suva and Lautoka will be boosted through this effort.
He says the partnership will also see reforms in Fijis two major Ports and will create employment opportunities
Dr. Parakrama Dissanayake, Chairman, Aitken Spence Maritime Limited and Director Aitken Spence PLC has signed the agreement on-behalf of his company.
Aitken Spence is delighted to have forged this agreement with FPCL and the Government of the Republic of Fiji. We see immense opportunities for the private sector to spearhead Fijis vision to exploit its strategic geographic location and skilled human resources to become the premier regional maritime hub, Dr. Dissanayake has said.
Aitken Spence is one of Sri Lankas largest conglomerates operating in a multiple of sectors such as logistics, plantations, leisure etc.
