Saina Nehwal marches on to become the 3rd best player in the world
P June 25th, 2010

Sania Nehwal the one woman baddy army as we like to call her has jumped three places in the world’s rankings and reached the no.3 spot. Extremely competitive 20-year-old, who has taken on China’s domination in the sport, now finds herself in the middle of a host of red Chinese flags that can be intimidating for any 20 year old but not Saina. Saina is the lone non-Chinese player in the top six list in the world’s badminton rankings.

Saina’s previous best was the fifth position she attained in March after becoming the first Indian woman to reach the semifinals of All England Super Series Championships a big feat for her age but very small by her determination. Saina is a strong favourite for a third title in three weeks as she advanced to the quarterfinals of the Indonesian Open Super Series in Jakarta Thursday another very reputed tournament and surrounded by Chinese again.

Saina won back-to-back titles, India Open Grand Prix and the Singapore Open Super Series in the last two weeks, and is well on course for the third win in as many weeks the ongoing tournament fetches enough points for the ace Indian badminton player to become the ace in the entitre world.

Though Saina has always been a bold and open to challenges she is a soft and sober Indian girl at heart who can do anything for her family and considers her father as her greatest gift. She has her international rankings as well to her father and says that she will fulfill her and her family’s dream to see become the best badminton player in the world.

Congrats to saina!

Pls stick to Topic, India ace tennis star Sania Mirza has brought all of us much joy (to us through tennis, to you through marriage) and all should look at it positively hoping it would improve our relations.

BTW she did not 'revolutionised' indian tennis, glamorised it. For fathers of indian tennis check out Vijay Amrithraj, Ramesh Krishnan, Mahesh Bhupathi and my fav Leander Paes.

Congrats to Saina on becoming no 3 ranked badminton player in the world. She makes up proud.

Saina in Indonesian Open final: Rediff Sports

Defending champion Saina Nehwal [ Images ] dished out yet another dominating performance, routing Japan's [ Images ] Eriko Hirose 21-9, 21-10 to storm into the final of the Indonesian Open Super Series badminton tournament in Jakarta on Saturday.

Saina thus earned a shot at her second successive Super Series title, having won the one in Singapore last week.

The top seeded Indian was all over her fourth seeded opponent as she collected points in heap and never allowed Hirose to come back.

It took her 27 minutes to finish on the right side of the result, which gives her a chance to notch up a hat-trick of titles.

Before winning the Singapore Open, Saina had won the Indian Open Grand Prix [ Images ] on home turf.

The world number three will now face off with another Japanese in Sayaka Sato, who ended the superb run of local qualifier Ana Rovita with a 21-19, 21-14 win in the other semi-final.

Continuing her scorching form, Saina began to dismantle the challenge of Hirose right from the start as she opened up a huge lead in no time.

Merely nine minutes into the match and the scoreline was 17-8 in Saina's favour and the Indian pocketed the opening game in just 12 minutes.

With such a superb start there was no stopping the Hyderabadi as she scored five points in a row to create a 9-2 lead in the second game.

Not even once, the Japanese could garner two consecutive points. The Indian took another four points to make it 15-5 and from there on, it was just a matter of time to complete the formalities.

We all Indians are really proud of Saina Nehwal as she has shattered the myth of chinese supremacy over Badminton.

As she hosted tricolor and ranked in the top 3 players of the world at a such a young age.

She deserves all the praises and appreciation.
