Pakistan to import 500 MW electricity from India

A Decade ago Pakistan was in Surplus in electricity & were talk with India for supply.
Now Pak need to export it.
Shame on our government and policy makers.
Electricity is needed now.
Now 500 MW can reduce electricity cuts in Lahore and it can save many peoples from the Dengue fever as Dengue Mosquito have easy access towards beds due to stoppage of fans and electricity,

1) First of all when Pakistan was in energy surplus, our total demand for electricity was not even 50% of what is today. Since then our population has massively increased and millions of new connections have been given to new customers.

2) back in 1990s, Most of our electricity generation was from decades old Hydro projects (which is excellent) and in order to overcome the remaining shortfall our government opted to generate electricity through expensive oil and gas which was a very bad idea. So the governments in 1990s did not do any long term planning and rather chose the most expensive option to temporarily get rid of the short-term energy crisis.

Musharraf is also responsible for today's energy crisis but do not blame him for everything

Cool down boy, India is not exporting Nuclear plants to Pakistan. Its only 500mw of electricity. How much electricity India is generating these days? 185,500 mw??? out of which she is planning to export 500mw to Pakistan? and when is she going to start exporting this electricity to Pakistan? after 5-8 years may be??? who knows by that time we have overcome our energy crisis in Pakistan and rather we would be exporting back to India?

and India is investing billions and billions of dollars in energy sector so by the time they would consider exporting to Pakistan, they would have already overcome energy shortfall in India

sorry mate, he did not say that exporting electricity to PAKISTAN is a idiotic move but not fulfilling the local need and exporting what is needed for the locals as idiotic

Nothing of big magnitude will happen, if the Government decides to export so be it. But we will ask to fulfil our needs.
But if the Government thinks its just 500 MW and its a sign of trust that is more valuable than the local need then we accept that.

By killing the local business...anyways Government will get the money...whether you sell in local market or foreign market.

Summer is approaching .. there is already scorching hot in some part of india...especially vidharba and some part of MP..where we have 12-16 hrs of load shedding at village level. bad move from business point of view.

From diplomatic point of view, we legitimatize the building of dams in Jammu & kashmir.

we don't represent the GoI ..we just share our views. If GoI has committed you may get the Electricity.

oh nai nai, they are only going to talk about importing electricity to Pakistan which will take 1 year or so. If they finally decided to go ahead, they will discuss tariff and then they will discuss how to export electricity to Pakistan, how the transmission lines are going to be distributed etc... may be only then after couple of years they will consider exporting to Pakistan and the implementation will also take long time of course

I don't see it happening for at least 5 years. Hamare mulkon main 1 disputed deewar per 50 saal case chalta hai to 500mw of electricity itni smooth kaise aaye gi

There is something called economics ..by you people logic basmathi rice should not be exported because poor man in india is not getting it ..criticism is good but criticism for sake of it and with prejudice is not good ..manmohan singh is a statesman and he has better insight in to the matter than you and me ..

what a poor logic...we only export when our supply is more than our demand, and in india electricity shortage is a nation wide problem nott specific to any individual. You should have known that how our business community have been pissed off with government because of energy and lack of reform in power sector. If you have anything in scarcity you should use it judiciously and spend on your people.

And MMS is a traitor, nothing less than that.
