Pakistan Ranks High on Happy Planet Index 2012

No offence meant, but most of the rest of the world would recommend that this should go to the " funny and humour " section.

@ the subject, why should every thing and anything to do with Pakistan have to be hyphenated with India ?

I agree with.

India is too lowly a country and does not fall in our league.

Pakistan should not be hyphenated with a country like India, which is not even a regional power.

Considering facts on the ground, DAWN has more truth to a 'one of the stories' than what ET has tried to show.

As Leader said, it could be that we're one heck of a 'non serious' nation about anything... and that could be the main reason affecting the survey, I don't see anything else brushing us as a happy nation. There could be 100 reasons declaring us as happy but there could also be 1000 other reasons declare us otherwise (Unhappy).

Oh we are serious enough. We understand the difficulties we face.

But it is the never say never and never say die attitude which has brought us to this stage.

This attitude will take us out of the current environment as well.

The difference is you people are only now getting a plate full, thus are scared that it might escape you again, we have had a belly full for several decades. Get the drift. :D

As if pakistan with their $1500 per capita had always been a rich nation..In fact pakistan was and still is a third world nation..

Right......AF_PAK hai na woh kafi hai................

But its always india which shouts for de-hyphenation and its always GOP which shouts for hyphenation complaining that treat us on par with india.

Yes Hail the Hongkong of south Asia aka Pakistan :lol:

Even somalians are happy, they have nothing to take care of, nothing to loose or win.

Ever seen homeless kids on streets, they are always happy playing with each other even if they don't get plate full. Now have u seen some engineering or medial students, they won't be happy even if hey can afford large pizza every night.

Now u tell what is Pakistan. A country that can't make basic rails, telecom, services, weapons and even 50% of required electricity should be happy because nothing much has been left to loose.

What happened in Pak after the anti islamic movie was a proof that Pak is a happy country.

Get the drift. :D

for never to say die attitude one has to be alive over the ground not below it.

Really..................?

We saw ho much tolerated india is. Your media showed very well. Ik match hi tha wo b tm jeet ge they phr b intna gussa dhoni pe.

True , but India's poverty is declining much more rapidly than Pakistan's .Just basic research from the UN or World Bank web site will show this to you .

Apart from that this article talks about only income poverty . The concept of Poverty needs to be looked at in a much more holistic way taking into account health , education , income , standard of life , literacy etc . Income is only one aspect of poverty .

This is why HDI is considered a much better measure of development .

Pakistan ranks low in human development index and India ranks medium . Pakistan is not even in India's league as far as overall development of a human being is concerned .

Human Development Index - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Why did you even bring in poverty ? Don't derail the discussion please . This has nothing to do with poverty :)

Pakistan among top 20 happiest countries, beating India, US: Report

KARACHI: Pakistan ranked 16th among 151 countries of the world on the Happy Planet Index (HPI) 2012, beating India and the United States which ranked 32nd and 105th respectively. Costa Rica was termed the happiest country, followed by Vietnam and Colombia.

The Happy Planet Index was calculated using life expectancy, experienced well-being and ecological footprint (per capita) of the countries with data collected from various sources
including UNDP and Gallup data. The index was compiled by New Economics Foundation (NEF).

The life expectancy and experienced well-being of Pakistan was found to be mediocre, but the ecological footprint was termed “good”. The total HPI of Pakistan was calculated to be 54.1.
Israel landed just one spot above Pakistan, having “good” life expectancy and experienced well-being, but a “poor” ecological footprint.

Bangladesh was higher up on the scale at 11, with the first two factors termed mediocre and the footprint as “good”.

India was found to have mediocre life expectancy and well-being and a “good” ecological footprint. However, its total HPI amounted to 50.9.

The only reason why the US scored low was its ecological footprint which was worse than the “poor” category. The life expectancy and experienced well-being were, however, ranked “good”.
Afghanistan was ranked 109.

The countries which landed at the bottom of the Happiness Index were mostly from Sub-Saharan Africa.

Denmark ranked the highest on the experienced well-being chart, followed by Canada and Norway.

Togo landed on the bottom of the chart.

On the life expectancy chart, Japan topped the list, followed by Hong Kong and Switzerland, while Sierra Leone gained the last spot.

Afghanistan had the best ecological footprint among all the countries, followed by Haiti and Bangladesh.

The countries with the worst ecological footprint included Qatar, Luxembourg, Kuwait, UAE, Denmark and the US.
