Pakistan’s defense ministry has signed a contract with Dutch ship designer Damen for the acquisition of a locally-built offshore patrol vessel (OPV).

The contract was signed on June 12 during an event attended by navy and company representatives and Dutch ambassador to Pakistan Jeannette Seppen.

According to the ministry of defense, the OPV will be built at Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works Ltd..

The ministry did not specify the type of OPV that will be built, but said the vessel will have a displacement of 1900 tons (approx), and an overall length of 90 meters.

These specifications point to Damen’s OPV 1800. While slightly below the Pakistani specification measuring 83 meters in legth and displacing 1,800 tons, the OPV 1800 has a stated top speed of 22 knots which matches that from specifications.

Pakistan further said the vessel is suited for anti surface, anti air operations, maritime security operations (MSO), day & night helicopter operations, combat search and rescue (CSAR) and surveillance and intelligence gathering.

For me real news is Netherlands selling us ships because Scandinavian countries often raise issues like human rights and others before selling weapons.

Assalam o alaikum Seniors
Your Post is too much good and informatic. Thanx for sharing it and keep it up........

one item that concerns me is as follows

"Pakistan further said the vessel is suited for anti surface, anti air operations, maritime security operations (MSO), day & night helicopter operations, combat search and rescue (CSAR) and surveillance and intelligence gathering."

without proper anti ship and anti air missiles how is this ship going to perform its duties. ???

Anti surface/ship same thing only thing missing is anti sub so looks liken pn will add harpoons from type 21 ?? Anti air looks like in some case on top of hanger and/or the bridge light mistral / ram type launcher giving anti missile plus planes capability even 76 mm naval guns have 11-12 km range in anti air role

Opv 1800 has weight of 1890 tons so almost 1900 plus 22 knots speed the only thing that does not match is 83/85 m vs 90 m but since its design is pretty dynamic/modular I guess additional space/ length at the front to add missiles ??

that will be good but at this point in time we have no confirmation of any missile or torpedo integration right? what kind of chopper? etc. without the muscles this OPV is no better than 95 meter corvette for PMSA under construction. and then why would navy wanted to add a PMSA type boat to its inventory and down grade its punch from type 21 to unarmed OPV? eventhough type 21 needs replacement, but replacement means similar or higher type of capabilities not lesser.

Nice year for navy 4-5 Turkish Corvettes
Now 3-4 Dutch Patrol Ships / Corvettes
Few Offshore patrol ships coming from China 100 meter big

Midget Submarine deal with European countries

Not to shabby

The Netherlands is not a Scandinavian country.

A quite a reasonable improvement for Pakistan Navy

Ababeel Missile (Multi warhead) fits every scenario from Afghanistan to India

If deals get signed, it is actually:

4 new corvettes (MILGEM)
2 new OPVs (Damen OPV 1800)
4 Azmat-class FAC
4-6 additional FAC
8 Hangor AIP submarines from China

Plus the stuff the PN already has, i.e. 4 F-22P and 3 Agosta 90B submarines. There are also new auxiliary ships, e.g. PN Fleet Tanker and the Submarine Rescue & Salvage Vessel.

i hope that these 2 opv comes with SSM and anti air missiles along with torpedoes. i also hope that some how Turkish corvette deal some how have anti air vls missiles.
