Commenting over a recent incident of a senior army officer praising Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Army Chief General V.K. Singh on Friday said that the armed forces' are 'apolitical'.

Singh made the statement on the sidelines of an event in New Delhi, where he said that the Army was studying the statement made by General Officer Commanding (GOC) Major General I.S. Singha of the Golden Katar Division.

"I don't know in which context he said so and why. We are studying it as to what he has said. I can make sure that there is no politicization in the Army," Singh said.

Major General Singha had on March 14 said that Modi has all the qualities of a successful Army commander, as he keeps deadline for completion of work, and ensures that target is achieved by the set time.

Singha is reported to have sought land from Gujarat government for setting up housing welfare societies for army personnel.
