Indian Railway's LHB Coaches

KAPURTHALA: In sync with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Make in India' campaign, the Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala, is contemplating to roll out the first rake of coaches which can run at a speed of 200km per hour. While its design has been prepared, RCF has already ordered a prototype of upgraded brake system, the most crucial component in this high speed train.

"If things go as planned, after getting the prototype of the new brake system, we shall prepare a prototype of the new coach by December. After the in-house testing, the first rake can be rolled out by the end of this financial year or in the beginning 2016-17 fiscal," said RCF general manager Alok Dave who is also holding the charge of RCF, Rae Bareli.

Pointing out other major changes in the high speed coaches, he revealed that those bogeys would have automatic sliding doors on the sides, improved design of the vestibule area, which would end the externally visible gap between the coaches, LED TVs, WiFi and a better passenger information system. "According to the design prepared for the upgraded disc brake system, it would have steel brake disc and sintered brake pads," Dave said.

He said as RCF had already rolled out a Shatabadi train rake of 17 coaches, which can run at a speed of 160kmph and which is still being tested on the tracks, they had also manufactured an observation car which can run at the same speed for testing the railway track and overhead electric equipments. The 160kmph rake has automatic compartment doors and GPS-based public information system.

Dave manager said they had rolled out 1,582 coaches in 2014-15 against the target of 1,500 and those also included 102 coaches for RCF. He said that they were also starting large scale manufacturing of non-AC LHB coaches which would be used in high speed trains.

RCF gets biggest export order from Bangladesh

RCF, Kapurthala has also has also bagged an order of 120 LHB coaches from Bangladesh, which is largest export order of coaches the Indian Railways has received. The order comprises 19 power car, 17 First AC chair car, 17 Second AC chair car and 67 non-AC coaches. Forty coaches each will be supplied in three years. Meanwhile, RCF will manufacture 90 AC 3-tier coaches for defence forces and these will be supplied in batch of 30 each in three years. This is the highest order from the defence sector till now.

wonderful news.
so 20 years after IR purchased its first dedicated passenger locomotive, true potential of WAP 5 will get realized.

again India is only user of BG LHB coaches and given its manufacturing experience of coaches, Bangladesh railways will benefit immensely.

Yipee!!!! This change we need 160kmph..great news sir!
I think it will take another decade to equip every train in Indian railways with these high-tech coaches.
Am i right?

Bangladesh should take necessary steps to produce rail coaches by itself. Why we are buying Indian shoddy product? Must have large corruption involved?:undecided:

Very we should expand our offers to latin America , Africa as well . It improves our rail system further ...

so whats the point Bangladesh further proving to be an indian vessel.

Actually it is not possible to replace all coaches with LHB ones since they have a significant drawback - they are not self power-generating and a train with LHB only coaches like Shatabdi Express has two generator cars, one at each ends to generate power - which in turn increases cost and reduces revenue/passengers and thus is not possible in many trains like the local trains.

LHB Coaches are being modified for the same purpose - ICF manufactured LHB Coaches have been upgraded from their original German versions - Shatabdi's LHB coaches were modified as ICF devised permanent magnet alternators since the dimensions of LHB coach did not let power generators attached to the wheels - It is in prototype phase but might be used for Shatabdi only -

Even if we have to replace all possible coaches with LHB ones - it will probably take more than a decade - the old ICF coaches will be in production at least till 2020. On the other hand the production of LHB coaches is increasing but not a pace to replace all possible coaches with LHB ones in the near future and neither is their plan to do so - Integral Coach Factory produced a record number of 1,704 coaches during the last fiscal including 239 DEMU coaches, 300 air-conditioned coaches and only 65 LHB coaches.

ICF would manufacture 285 LHB coaches in financial year 2015-16 and 600 such coaches in FY 2016-17.

@anant_s Any idea of the total locos and coaches produced every year - and their breakdown in LHB / ICF etc.?

Africa as well

We'r already exporting to Africa - These coaches were exported to Senegal -

Indian Railways exports these beautiful coaches!

Like Pakistan turned into a Chinese vassal when it exported coaches to Pakistan?

BTW it's 'vassal' not "vessel'. :coffee:

Typically, many small firms combine parts manufacturing with bicycle assembly and retailing of “complete knock down” (CKD) and/or “semi knock down” (SKD) kits imported from China and India.

A domestic trading group, Meghna, was the next firm to enter the bicycle export manufacturing industry. Meghna’s founders had been involved in bicycle and parts trading in the 1960s, manufacturing bicycle spokes in the 1970s and doing bicycle assembly for the local market in the 1980s.

After diversifying and becoming a highly successful trading conglomerate, the Meghna Group grew to become the largest bicycle and bicycle parts manufacturer in the country. It now has two factories dedicated to the export market, two factories dedicated to bicycle manufacturing for the local market, and five bicycle components factories. The third and last market entrant in the bicycle exporting industry is German Bangla Bicycles, established in 2009 as a joint venture between a German bicycle manufacturing firm (Panther) and a Bangladeshi company (Powertrade Engineering) whose major business interests are in heavy manufacturing (telecom towers, electrical grid infrastructure, and so forth). Like the other two firms, German Bangla is an OEM, but by and large only for European brands.

Your post is irrelevant. I proved that India exports bicycles parts to BD.
