High Speed Trains in Pakistan

Pakistan should have a High Speed Train connecting Peshawar, Islamabad, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Lahore, Sahiwal, Multan and Bhawalpur. Daily service once or twice a day depending on demand.

Any Suggestions Guys..... :pakistan::pakistan::pakistan::pakistan::pakistan::pakistan::pakistan:

transportation is without a doubt important development... but we should know our priorities straight !

Every thing is possible... any project can be set up in Pakistan.. only thing needed is the new younger management not the old fart who will not hire any one for not having experience in years... transportation is very important part in economy and so is hospital.. but that does not mean we should curse some who at least spend some money on public transport rather then taking it all in his pocket and not making hospital. And For Funds it can be arranged if sincere people manage it through islamic banking with no or fixed interest rates. Pakistan should always on every project or fund must check it by Auditing it for every penny. only then investor will come.. it will make way for higher returns.

Best way for fund is make sure overseas Pakistanis can invest in any project with guaranteed safety for their money and higher rate of return for them.

Better to run the existing railway network efficiently first, it is in sad state and needs huge investments.
And Pakistan is a small country with all major cities within a few hundred kilometers of distance from each other, HSR is not an urgent need, Pakistan can do well without it also.

I would try to get electricity 24*7 first.

Wait, so you would sell high interest bonds to finance the project and then run these trains only once or twice a day.

These are the tricks Pakistani politicians play to get votes, short term plans and projects. Just throw in some metro bus projects and give out free laptops to your party's students wing and voila you will win another term of elections.

1) Make sure all kids get free quality education for next 20-30 years
2) adults get vocational training for next 10-15 years
3) build world class infrastructure for trade and commerce and business, and establish free zones like Dubai
4) as a result of all the above un-employment will fall drastically and

a) result in better standard of living for the common man
b) national economy goes up, GDP goes up, GNI goes up
c) result in fall of religious extremism and non-tolerance

5) common man will be able to afford to use facilities like high speed rails.

Having high speed rail without the above, just see the current state of railways in the picture below:

a) corruption
b) terrorist attacks
b) cleanliness and Hygiene of railways

UAE did not let their small population and small area be an obstacle in developing their country and building airports and handling tens of millions of passengers annually and say we cannot develop our country as we have a small population.

China did not let their population and large area be an obstacle to develop their economy and country and say we have a big population and a large area to control and hence cannot develop our country and economy.

Both of them focused on making sure that each and every child is in school and adults get vocational trainings and after a couple of decades you can see the results.

We have been thought about this before, Pakistan can't be Europe or Japan because they prefer to live in third world permanently and doesn't want to develop further.

Do you really think million illiterate people will sit on the roof like this overload on new high speed trains ?

High speed trains are magnetically levitated. The magnetism comes from electro-magnets. They need a lot of electric power. These high speed train systems consume far more electricity than ordinary trains. Pakistan does not have electricity for basic needs. Right now it cant even dream of projects that consume electricity so lavishly.

Don't worry high speed metro bus will be operating in Pakistan in near future connecting major cities.

The Infrastructure British left, even that is not expanded.. rather reduced.. such demands are far fetched! All the trains running on electricity have been shut down, many routs are cancelled and freight trains are reduced to minimum.. so keep calm and enjoy Lahore metro bus system, the technology of 20th century ..

The British invested and maintained the infrastructure 100000 times better than our politicians.

Sir this is not a bad plan, but like the motorway plan in early '90s, it is at least a decade or two ahead of its time at this stage.

No harm in planning and understanding the requirements. I hope it does get built one day - and I also hope that it extends to Karachi & maybe even Quetta & perhaps Gwadar one day.

That's True but then it will take that long to take a Project like this from Planning to Operational Stage.

At this stage , it would be Prudent to start Planning to link up just Islamabad - Lahore - Faisalabad to give boost to our Economy. Eventually ( as you have suggested ) we could link up Peshawar to Karachi/Gwadar also.

As far as the Electricity situation is concerned , it will be taken care of in this timeframe as 40 gigabyte will be added thru various Hydro and Nuclear Projects in next 10 to 12 years.

:raise: uncle we should fix the basics first for instance education, electricity and gas (and increase our industries) and also work on our justice system which should be called injustice and banned! then only can we think of bullet trains! We dont even have a basic functional railway!

Did you mean gigawatt's by any chance?

also the infrastructure cost of 1 gigawatt electricity generation would be to the tune of 14,000 crore PKR.

The infrastructure cost of 1 gigawatt electricity by way of hydel would be to the tune of 12,700 crore PKR

Now multiply both by 40.

I don't see that kind of investment capacity in electricity generation in Pakistan at present or in the next 10 to 12 years.
