What's new

“HavaSOJ” Electronic warfare aircraft project officially commenced

By the time they are inducted in Turkish airforce in a few years we could see more enemy air forces employing long range RAM jet BVRAAM with home on jamming seekers along with SAMs of same type.

How will HavaSOJ counter such a threat?

First of all, New generation BVR missiles are difficult to detect. Their engine burns out a small time period after launch. This makes them nearly thermally stealth for fighters until a distance.
They are difficult to jamming because they have a two way data-link between missile and launching platform. In addition, their active radar seekers are activated in terminal phase. To jamming missile’s active seeker, You have just a few second which makes it almost impossible. Suppose that BVR missile is jammed inside such a small time. This time, Two way data-link allow pilot to guide missile to re-track enemy targets. Even if pilot does not control the missile, Home-on jamming seeker allow missile to track the source of jammer.

so instead of wasting time to jamming coming BVR missile, The stand off jammer aircrafts mostly attack on the main radar source guiding the missile in order to cut the communication infrastructure between missile and fighter/ground control radars until missile reaches into terminal phase. If you have an advanced link system to deliver the control of missile to other units, Jammer aircrafts could even face more difficulty...

What I mean the modern AA missiles are not easy targets to jamming. The missile designer took many precuations to make them more lethal so jammer aircrafts are working from stand-off ranges to spoil the game of enemy in such a dangerous environment. If you want to win an aerial combat, you should avoid of being shot at first. The side who see other side to fire missile first, will mostly survive last. HavaSOJ will provide powerful jamming environment to make enemy radars not to see their targets first.

Turkish Airforce Boeing E7-T AEWC+HAVASOJ+F-35A Fighter Jets ... good luck to noob players

-- Turkish Airforce Boeing E7-T AEWC with 600km PESA Radar will rule skies
-- Turkish Airforce F-16C Fighter Jets armed with 120km AIM-120C7 air to air missiles and SPEWS-II self protection Electronic Warfare Suite
-- Turkish Airforce will have F-35A stealth Fighter Jets armed with 120km AIM-120C7 air to air missiles
-- Turkish Airforce HAVASOJ will have long range detection and jamming capability

-- 280km SOM-J network enabled stealth Cruise Missile to engage on Air Defense Systems

and HAVELSAN RF Decoy is designed to be used in EW Self Protection Systems for greatly increasing the survivability of airborne platforms against RF guided Missiles

This tech should be national secret of turkey

Last time I checked our airforce shot down two aircrafts of the Indian air force two weeks ago. They were backed by erieye for battlespace awareness and DA 20s for EW so I am pretty sure they know their stuff.

The scenario in my query is possible and cannot be neglected.

Eieye is not a EW, it is a AWAC and ther jamming capabilities is limited for self protection. Like our 737 AEW it can not jam enemy.

I did use the word battlespace awareness.

DA 20s were used for EW. These were last upgraded in 2007 IIRC.
