Dhaka vs Kolkata

Durgapur is quite a decent city, I will post some pics of Durgapur later. Durgapur-Asansol industrial belt still has some good industries. I think Tata should have built the Nano plant in Durgapur instead of Singur. Shiliguri is a major trading hub of north Bengal.

I also think compairing Dhaka with Kolkata is a bit unfair. Dhaka still is a half-village trying to become a city, I agree that they have managed to get one or two multiplexes and shopping malls, but so does a small town like Burdwan in West Bengal, and both Dhaka and Burdwan largely depend on thousands of cycle rickshaws for public transport. I think we should compare Dhaka with Burdwan, they differ only in size, nothing else!! :)

Bangal...! :D
Dada babu,You are very funny.:omghaha: We are talking about Dhaka vs Mumbai and you are pulling out your Burdwan from your pocket.Beche thako dada hajar bochor.:yahoo:

Mumbai!!!! That city has more infrastructure and bigger ecenomy than the whole of Bangladesh!!! One sq.km of Mumbai has 10 times more to offer than your Dhaka and Chittagong combined!! Let's keep the discussion sane and realistic. :D

Seriously only 1000 ? :what:

A 1000 taxis are more than enough for village towns like Dhaka! :P

He is an Indian. :)

Now dont start again. He was born in Comilla. Now in BD area. He can be considered dual citizen of BD and India like Rabindranath. Dont take this man made boundary too seriously.

It will take time for the socialist/communist mentality to be expunged.

Keralites for example are great hard working people, as long as they have left Kerala :p:

Anyways, Kolkata Metro looking good:

Running for last 31 years, Kolkata metro is still very clean and professional. :)

Kolkata is a declining city while Dhaka is an emerging one.Current problem is due to rapid rise of population overwhelming the administration to cope with.In 1970 Dhaka had 1 million people vs Kolkata had 10 million. Now Dhaka has more people than Kolkata. When a city experience this type of phenomenal growth, city administration often find it hard to keep pace with. For the last 2/3 decades Kolkata's population is stagnant even declining. So it is much easier for them to provide basic amenities to citizen.:mod:

But the most important difference is that,Dhaka is the capital of an independent country,While kolkata is a third tire city in India nobody talk about. It is like another Agartala or Guwahati. When Indian talk about their cities, they talk about Delhi,Mumbai or Bangalore not Kolkata. Kolkata used to be great when there was british. But after that Delhi's Brahmon Punjabi ruler developed Delhi Mumbai at the expanse of Kolkata. But stupid Indian Bengali are happy to suck up their Brahmon Punjabi master in Delhi and happy to receive some bone thrown at them to keep them servile. If Indian Bengali had an iota of brain then they would have made them free from the Punjabi brahmon ruler of Delhi and joined Bangladesh for continued growth and prosperity.

My presence is so much required to maintain sanity of BD section....the above post full of insanity is a proof of that. :P

Durgapur has an airport now, a reasonably decent one!! :)
I once heard there was a plan for one airport in Andal, close to Durgapur. Is it the same one ? Has it been completed ? Is it functional now ?

You should read some earlier post in this thread.Maharastra is the only state in India which is comparable to BD in economy. So Mumbai is comparable to Dhaka and Kolkata is comparable to Chittagong.

He was born in India, and remained an Indian all his life. He was not a citizen of Bangladesh. And certainly not Rabindranath....he died long before the creation of Bangladesh!!!!! :)

It is almost complete, operational now in a limited way.

How do you compare an entire country to one state of another country? :D

NOOOOOO bro...... bagdogra isnt closed half time... its fully functional round the year....

Well, 'half of the time' was more like a figure of speech.. It does stay closed many a time under one pretext or other. Sometimes it is runway under repairs, sometimes it is the Control Tower undergoing renovation. They don't have proper runways and other infrastructure to support bigger planes to land. I mean think about it. It's an important airport and has a lot of possibility to become a tourism hub among many other things. But, very lacklustre performance of govts. there, be it Mamta now or the CPM before her.
I tell you, West Bengal is very slowly going out of sync with the progress of rest of India.

Now everyday dont repeat the same tapes dude. Before 1947 there was no India. It was British India. You agree or not. If you say India existed before 1947 by its present map then we can agree that Bangladesh also existed by its present territory. Thousands and millions years ago there was Bangladesh. We are happy that someone from our land did something significant nothing more.

We don't mind comparison with Maharastra as it is the biggest Indian state by economy. But I will feel offended if BD is compared to any other Indian state.:bounce:

@waz @Horus can you guys please close this thread before it turns into an ugly fight? Feel free to send @Rain Man off to a short vacation - he deserves some sunlight. :D

So much of hatred against a poor Bengali even after so many years of partition!! :cray:

Comeon he is gem of PDF-BDF. When it becomes boring in PDF he is the only source of entertainment.

Hmmm....I am the only source of sanity, knowledge, and enlightment in BD section! :D

Take the jam out. Dhaka is twice developed than kolkata. It is as par with Bombay

It seems that all Bangladeshis leave their brains in deep freeze before coming to pdf. :(

there is no doubt "THAT WE NEED TO IMPROVE OUR TRANS-PORTACTION STSEM".................:agree::agree::agree:

What is that?? :P

India had joined UN in 1945 as a country . India didnt have to apply for fresh membership after 1947 because it it was considered the successor state of British India . On the other hand Pakistan and BD had to apply for UN membership when they were created which proves they were carved out of India and were parts of India before 47

Brilliant!! That seals the deal for @bongbang !! :D

Wiki says Dhaka's current GDP is $280 billion (PPP). Not too bad right? ;p

Who cares about PPP? :P

Last time I checked, Maharashtra was the only province with a nominal GDP larger than BD's.

That means the entire country of Bangladesh is not even comparable to just one of the Indian states!! :D

comparing govt. sectors LOL all know BD govt. service very limited. Some to Private sectors. Dhaka will beat hell out of kolkata.

:sarcastic::sarcastic::sarcastic:

UP is doing better!! :-)

UP is doing better!! :-)
May be.But it will take UP another 10 years to reach the current position of Bangladesh and somewhat more for Maharastra.I find it amusing that a state with 220 million population have half the gdp of Maharastra which have half the population of UP. How much discrimination in India is going on.:(

I find it amusing that with all that GDP how come some 20 million illegal Bangladeshi immigrants are in India.
