@yoshi.oda

dony forget they building 4 more Atago class; not 2, but 4 more. So the Navy will have up to 6 Atagos, plus 4 Kongos (already upgraded recent) so 10AEGIS destroyer .

@Nihonjin1051 , also since we are not party to INF treaty we can put "other" things on the VLS sites . Maybe you know more? Or maybe not? Hehe ;)

So Japanese navy is more overrated than I initially thought.
Thanks for clearing that up man.

The modern Japanese navy and air force are all Made in America.

I can hardly single out any truly indigenous weapon.

Kongo and Atago: American Aegis system, American MK-41 cell launcher, American LM2500 gas turbine, American Harpoon anti-ship missile, etc. The only thing that is Made in Japan is the ship hull, while the rest all American.

F-2: It is just a carbon copy of F-16, and the jet engine is still American. Since Japan has failed to reverse engineer the CFM56 core jet engine technology.

As I said, then what?
If China doesn't respect the international law it signed up to when it interferes with its interests, why would any country believe China would honor bilateral agreements when it interferes with their interests?

Basically countries will see China's treaties as worth less if not worthless.

such disregard also leads to coalitions like NATO. Ive noticed the Chinese on here are dismissive of every other country in Asia when it comes to opposing Chinese interests, but it must be recognized that an Asia united against China is something China will find difficult to disregard, especially with the US across the Pacific lake.

Some Chinese have hopes that the US will somehow disappear from Asia and that things will 'return to normal'. but from our perspective the US in Asia is normal. The US has been a power in Asian affairs for more than half its existence as a country, and less than 10 years since the US has had a Western seaboard. Hawaii just makes it easier.

Basically unless the US somehow loses control of its western seaboard, the US will remain a player in Asia if it should choose to, and given the strength of our navy today, that means the US will remain a major power, if not the primary power, in Asia for the foreseeable future.

This is the reason China would not want to alienate its neighboring countries, China is no longer the 'emperor' of Asia, with all countries paying tribute. The world has moved on, the countries of Asia now have a choice.

Japan is weak.

Untested, yes... but the US doesn't think Japan is weak. On the contrary their navy is comparable to the US 7th fleet, they are one of the top naval powers in the world. The only reason this is not recognized is that given the treaty their navy has been in the shadow of an outlier (the US navy as a whole), Japan's navy is easily one of the top 5 navy's in the world, and is arguably second only to the US when it comes to professionalism. They are very well trained seamen

China respects international law more than most others. No doubt about that.

Why would China believe, say, India, US or Vietnam, would honor bilateral agreements when those agreements interfere with their interests?

It is not that the US is the embodiment of good will and honor of their word.

You do not have to believe us. We do not have to believe you. Everybody gets happy.

You are entitled to your opinion. We respect that.

Foreseeable for you. Time is a relative concept.

Same advice to the US although China has never been imperialist or expansionist in its history, unlike the US.

By percentage, Japan has more territorial disputes with its neighbors than China does. Then, relax, this is a long game.

The world has now a choice. And that choice is to decouple from the US-led system. That's sweet for many from Africa to Latin America and Syria.

Perception matters, simple as that, and China disregarding a UNCLOS ruling hurts perception of China at the very lightest..

:disagree: You act as if China has no skeletons in its closet, and no history before the century of humiliation, this is delusional, I think we're done here.

Perception is like a weather. Changes all the time. Can also be manipulated. If winter, you wear a coat. If summer, buy a Midea air conditioner.

You act as if China has all the skeletons that exist.

You are done.
