Last April, the home ministry put Ford Foundation on the prior permissions category under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) that governs foreign funding of NGO.

Under the category, the Reserve Bank of India would need home ministry approval before disbursing funds sent by the US donor agency.

But in March this year, the government took Ford Foundation off the list after the agency agreed to be registered under the Foreign Exchange Management Act that governs flow of foreign exchange.

Joshi said he was he was pressurised by Prasad to remove Ford Foundation from the category. He asked why the agency was not asked to register under the more stringent under the Foreign Contribution Registration Act (FCRA) that governs NGO funding.

“I raised questions about it in writing. I am being hounded for doing my duty,” Joshi said on Tuesday.

Prasad told HT that whatever the under secretary is saying is “rubbish” and “baseless”.

“The CBI is probing the case and I am sure the truth will come out,” Prasad added.

Joshi also denied seeking any bribe from any NGO.

“Some insignificant files may have recovered from house but they were irrelevant. I can explain recovery of money from house as well. I am an honest person who is being victimised for not toeing the line of my superior,” said Joshi.

Joshi’s wife Minakshi said her husband was last seen at 2am.

In the Hindi letter addressing his wife, Joshi said, “I have been going through extremely high mental harassment for the past few months but now the situation has got out of hand...At this moment I need peace and that is not possible here. I am leaving home and please do not look for me.”

Senior home ministry official said Joshi came under the radar after he issued more 50 notices to NGOs last November.

He was transferred out of the foreigners division in December and later a file with regard to activist Teesta Setalvad’s NGOs -- which are being probed for violation of funding norms -- was recovered at his instance and a departmental inquiry initiated against him.

BJP is west leaning. They going after western NGOs is a smoke screen and a red herring.

Everything BJP has done points to contrary.
AND
Everything Congees have done proves you wrong.

FACT 1 - There is zero sum game in foreign policy. US cares about these NGO's but not the at cost of pissing off BJP govt.

FACT 2 - Unless you think teesta and co are planted by BJP supporters, I would say there is something wrong in your logic.

Things are not as straight forward as you think and there is no gap in my logic.

Congress is a Russia leaning party. NGOs & Naxals have a role when Congress is in power.

When BJP is in power, NGO & Naxals have no significance as BJP is a west leaning party.

Congress' ideology is socialism while BJP's is capitalism.

You cannot make money in a G2G deals.

Congress survives on corruption by middlemen in G2G deals while BJP survives on crony capitalism.

Different philosophies require different methods to make money.

Congress ideology is not socialism.

It is about dynasty preservation. They had their chance to truly turn a new leaf with PV Narasimha Rao....but they backtracked to the way it was before. Now there is no hope for them nor should we ever trust them or their stooges (AAP).

The way they treat that great leader legacy (Narasimha Rao) should tell you all you need to know about Congress ideology.

They never implemented the parts of socialism in any strong way that goes against their basic ideology....just whatever they could distort around it and call it "socialism". In the end we got the worst parts of socialism for nearly 60 years and next to none of the good parts.....because the first thing socialism requires is meritocracy, not dynasty politics.

These NGO's were indeed involved in serious subversive activities , I am glad they are being taken care of. I dont think BJP is west leaning as such. Congress dint have the guts to go after these proxy fronts of foreign intelligence agencies for fear of backlash. More than west leaning they are bit daring and pro active in foreign matters.

True, congress party hardly had a foreign policy. Their only policy is self preservation. Even though they have ppl who can make some difference like tharoor ,manish tiwari, pilot ...etc they are forced to compete with other sycophants.

Care to explain further

When did institutionalized Nepotism and Oligarchy become part of Socialism?

1) Reservation Policies

2) Nationalization of Banks

3) Nationalization of private industries in strategic sectors (Energy, Defense etc)

4) Kicking out of western companies in the 1970s

5) Urban land ceiling act

6) Bhoodan movement

7) MGNREGA

True, PVN never got the credit he deserved. If not for him the country would have been in economic doldrums. Gandhi family does not allow any one other than themselves to be shown in good light. They simply dont allow any leader with independent thinking to exist in their party.

Policy leanings to the left due to it's own intellectual bankruptcy doesn't make the Congress Socialist.

Hehe, all the names you mentioned are ok with working under the capable leadership of Rahul Gandhi. That itself tells a lot about them.

Politicians are not in the business of social service.

They are in it to make money and they would use their stated ideologies as needed to fool the people at large.
