ISLAMABAD: The international investor's conference on Diamer Bhasha Dam will be held in Washington DC in October 2014 which would be co-hosted by Government of Pakistan and USAID.

Richard G. Olson US Ambassador to Pakistan who called on the Finance Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar here Wednesday said that the US also considers Kurram Tangi Hydro Power Project as an important project which can benefit people of FATA.

He informed that besides the US, Government of Italy and Islamic Development Bank are also interested to finance the Project.

The Ambassador informed the Finance Minister that the US was working with the UN to provide relief to the IDPs who have been internally displaced due to operation in NWA.

He informed that the US has already provided US $ 8 million to WFP for milling of the wheat provided for IDPs by the Government of Pakistan.

The Finance Minister said that energy remains one of the highest priorities of the present government.

In this connection the government is working on fast track to utilize indigenous sources to reduce the dependence on imported and expensive sources, he added.

The Finance Minister also discussed details of the investor's conference on Diamir Basha Dam with the Ambassador.

He appreciated US support for IDPs and hoped that the international community will come forward for providing relief to the IDPs.

The Ambassador assured the Finance Minister that the US would continue to maintain partnership with Pakistan and will work for peace and stability in the region.

He said "we are looking forward to enhance our existing relations in all areas of mutual interest. He informed the Finance Minister that the reimbursements to Pakistan on account of Coalition Support Fund are on track".

Nawaz, Saudia kay baad, sabb say barra Wahabi kutta hai.......... according to his plan, they day his government ends, so should Pakistan........ he has some plans to make Lahore / Punjab into a separate country.............

IS this a sarcastic joke or are you serious ?

Maybe Pakistan can apply for a loan at the future BRICS bank. By the time construction of the dam should start, they should have it running and giving out loans.

This shows that Nawaz thinks so far ahead. A true visionary.

BTW its a truly big project, akin to India undertaking a project costing 120 Billion dollars. Plus in Pakistan tax collection is waaayyy worse than India, so if I take that into account, its like India trying to fund a project costing 204 Billion dollars. We would truly struggle too.

So its easy to criticize Nawaz, but slightly more painful to pay taxes...

I don't recall I ever read it being proposed for funding from China.

Chinese are already financing Neelum Jhelum, Basha Dam location is controversial for international donors. Hence outright rejection from WB and complete hesitation from chinese portfolio.

Why built it even in 2037?

2037 is just sensationalism.

The reality is much simpler.

Bhasha right now is on lower priority because there is no dollar funding. Rupee funding is there, but no dollar funding. And without that the project is delayed.

How on earth we went from Bhasha to Wahabis.

just curious
We can go anywhere we want.

Ontopic: Good decision by the govt, Make the dam whose funds are available and will take lesser time than others, Pakistan needs energy and Dasu project is of almost same capacity as Diamer Dam, with no hurdles it should get build before Diamer Dam. When our economy improves and we become more strong as a nation we can concentrate on Diamer Dam and Kalabagh Dam.

I know that it's the reason for WB rejection. But the Chinese might be persuaded since they are already funding many projects in the disputed region and carrying out feasibility of links passing right through Azad Kashmir.
