Bangladesh to allow making motorcycles up to 500 cc but ban local use above 165 cc ones

BD has pretty much banned cars due to extremely high customs duty.

Only limited numbers are assembled in BD.

These 500cc cycles would be affordable to the massess and they would drain billions of US dollars in precious reserves as oil imports rocket.

High customs duty for cars is BD was never to discourage car ownership or to save on petrol consumption. It exists to this day as it is a truly a progressive tax. If it was otherwise it would not have stayed at a constant level for many years but would have risen to maintain the number of cars on the road or overall petrol/liquefied gas consumption.

The ban on 500cc bikes for all intent and purposes lacks any justification.

I call bollocks to they being too powerfull being a real reason. Why can cops not get more powerful bikes. In UK police BMWs have additional capacity to cope with all but supercars. Most countries give their law enforcement better than standard capacity .
Only weird countries like japan put limiters on cars and bring everyone down.

There is no fun riding a 150cc motorbike, that feels like an obligation.
Motorbikes are not for fun riding in a country like BD. It has no good roads to navigate 500 cc motorcycles. You have to find out how many motorcycle riders were killed in accidents after the opening of Padma Bridge.
