The thumb of religious extremists is too big for Pakistan to wriggle out of. The fist holding that thumb is Saudi Arabia.

You know the Saudis themselves are moving away from such extremism, don't you? They put Shi'ites on the Shoura Council, craft peace plans for the Israel-Palestine conflict, and are moving to give women political rights and the vote.
The conservatives are apparently mollified by outsourcing their sexism and sectarian hatred elsewhere - to Pakistan and beyond.

The poor girl perhaps did not even realise what she was writing, given the standard and system of education in our country. Attaining good grades is a priority, achieved through memorising each and every word without understanding the meaning or reason.
