Tensions rise as Russia says it's deploying anti-aircraft missiles to Syria

Making Russia your enemy

Back in the 1960s Turkey allowed US to deploy nuclear bombers/missiles in Anatolia against the then mighty Soviet Union. That was about as provocative a thing you could have done. This would in a long about way lead to Soviets deploying nuclear missiles in Cuba as tit for tat. Sort of saying to American's if you deploy them under our soft underelly we will do the same to you. It almost led to WW3.

If that provocation was tempered this is storm in tea cup by comparison and so will this. Being NATO member assures any Russian reaction is displaced across the entire NATO shield.

Making Russia your enemy is a big mistake.

China is a soft touch, we are too concerned over internal issues to mess about with the outside world. But Russia, they won't stop until they break the Kurds away from Turkey, with basically unlimited supplies of weaponry.
Russia will not let this matter off until they at least shot down a Turkey aircraft.

Yep it did lead to the Cuban Missile Crisis, which was as close as the world got to the nuclear apocalypse.

But the Russian response this time will be tempered, they will probably shoot down a few Turkish jets while fully supporting the Kurds to create an independent state.

Expected move by russia . will it allow france or usa to fly in syrian airspace?

shoot down a few Turkish jets

I will be surprised if they even do that. Behind the scenes both (NATO/Russia) sides are going draw red lines in order to prevent dangerous escalation.

Kurds to create an independent state.

I doubt that. Kurds are firmly in the Western sphere and they will NOT want to lose the swell of goodwill they have nurtured in the West. The Kurds are these days the golden boys in the West.

Indeed the Kurds are the golden boys of the West against ISIS, they've even been given their own self-rule in Iraq and Syria.

Which isn't good news for Turkey though. If you give the Kurds self-rule in Iraq and Syria, they will ask... why not in Turkey and Iran too?

It's opening a big can of worms.

Nah. Why settle for small fish. I think I will try for India ( only joking ) and wonder what @MilSpec thinks what chance I have in India? I am sure I would do well in South India?

@Jacob Martin

Can't say about Pakistan. But your penchant for gratuitous comments on physical attractiveness will get you into trouble in most parts of India, except maybe in Bihar and Eastern UP.

People have been talking about WW3 and nukes, etc; a lot of scaremongering on the internet. After all the Chinese friends were saying, it comes down to S-400s. When I said, Rusia is not strong enough to take on Amrka, blind patriots came in their defence.

One thing for CERTAIN, Amrka and NATO are not coming to Tukys aid, no matter how much our countrymen delude themselves. Our Chinese friends said, correctly Turky is a Muslim country and no Christendom is going to spill blood for them.

The least I was expecting from Rusia was dog fights over Syria with Turky. Nothing more than that, no ground invasion, no nukes, just Su-35s vs F-16s. Deploying SAMs shows a certain lack of confidence in Rusia planes, but we'll wait and see! We know Turky will jam those SAMS and it may end up in a dog fight. Pakistan should wait placing the order until the outcome of the SU-35 against Turkys F-16s is assessed.
True. Turkey was taken in NATO because of strategic convenience, not because they have values, cause etc.

There are some countries in NATO that are expendable, Turkey is one of them, next in the list are the insignificant eastern European countries.

That's like a smart move. This may be our M M Alam moment!!

Whoa!!! Jamming S-400 by Turkey :rofl:......from which planet did you land here. S-400 is a nightmare for the NATO and even Daddy America is in shock with Russian electronic warfare capabilities. If Russia wants, it can escalate it very easily and NATO won't come to help Turkey but they are waiting for an excuse to attack Russia.

now half of turk's sky will become naked in front of S-400, russia could shoot down their F16 anytime they want. The patriot system has gone, HQ-9 impossible, turk really sucks big this time.

You think war is like video game where you can choose weapons of your choice for you and for your opponent? Russia will certainly field their best toys to counter Turkish F-16 which are no match against S-400 or SU-30s. And jamming? S-400 uses AESA radar as far as I know.

Russia will not let this matter off until they at least shot down a Turkey aircraft.

You think Turkey's plane will be in the air near the border till the tension subsided.

after all this talk and you prove that you indeed lack any understanding of the issues regarding the stakes at hand. Take a look at 2010 when the Syrian uprising in its infancy began. No one could have predicted that the situation will go out of hand the way it did in just mere 5 years. now with turkey playing a hostile act nato incurstion in the syrian and a deliberate placement of heavy equipment and other stuff into the syria by the Russia we are just a few unintended events away from direct war.

The way you downplay this incident is moronic at best.
