Can an expert explain why south Afghanistan is relatively calm, and most of the fighting is in the north?

Kunduz is home to a large number of Pashtun , it was always a strong hold for the taliban. Infact , it was the last taliban province to fall after the 2001 US invasion.

Why are Pashtuns absorbed to terrorist groups so easily? There is something wrong with education or mentality of some of them. Maybe illiteracy is the main reason, and Taliban knows well how to exploit it.

If you look at afghan history ,you will find that ethnic tensions have infact featured consistently and till this day , the issue remains unsolved. In the early 90s , after the fall of the communist government ,the once unified mujaheddin started to fight each other for kabul. The northern alliance , mostly tajik and uzbek fought the Taliban , which were based in the Helmand and Kandahar regions and were overwhelmingly ethnic Pashtuns. So it can be said that the taliban predominately sprung out from the Pastun nationalist movement.

Sources in Kundoz province, a Taliban RPG hit a M17 helicopter of MOD damaging the fuel tank of the chopper& made it back 2 airport.

Amrullah Saleh should pack his bags soon because they Taliban will certainly not forgive him. The Afghans were laughing at Pakistan on our recent attack and this was easily observed when reading their comments on Facebook and Twitter, however they have received some of their own medicine and karma works in mysterious ways.

I am sorry but what does pulling troops out of Kunar or Nuristan have to do with South Waziristan . Kunar and Nuristan are adjacent to Bajaur and Dir agency. Pulling out troops there would have no affect as during op -south waziristan TTP either fled to NorthWaziristan or to Zabul Province in Afghanistan.
Americans never had much presence in Paktika or Helmand to begin with .For this reason from 2009-2011 they started focusing more on Southern afghanistan i.e Helmand. Hence the troop surge and Operation Marjah .

And abandoning posts near ops doesnt equate to TTP allegedly being an American proxy.

They ran away to Kunar via shawal valley which extends both in North and South Waziristan. We asked American presence on the other side of border specifically. But since Americans were high on Haqqani BS at that time. They conveniently forgot to seal border properly from Afghanistan side nor there were any Afghani presence there

And the trend continues till to day. Read this account for better understanding !

Some of the same Mujahideen recently massacred a lot of your military families. You still like them..?? Strange.. I thought Pakistanis respected their military much more than that..
Not even a single Pakistani Militant fought soviets.
haven't they've been fighting for last 2-3 decades?
All those who fought soviets or either on retirement or fighting US.

They and Afghan Taliban are tied at the hip. How else do you explain their operations from Afghansitan where the Afghan Taliban rule the roost.

Afghan taliban presence in Kunar and nuristan are minimal. With there recent fights with EX TTP now ISIS have diminished their numbers. Who says Afghan Talib have a strong presence in kunar and Nuristan ?

TTP thriving in those areas due to NDS hospitality. Not due to Afghan taliban. Get your facts straight for once

Mullah abdus salam, you claimed yesterday he was killed in an airstrike

The person in question has been taken out of the battlefield, the Talis will of course claim otherwise, he along with his deputy, and LET operative, and 15 other middle level commanders in one air strike.

The Taliban are fighting fanatically and in fact they continuously gaining territory and ambushing relief forces from surrounding provinces. Such a symbolic attack has shaken a number of people who were promoting the slogan that the Taliban are finished and they have them selves to blame.
