Taliban will take over Afghanistan in 2017: All 16 US Intelligence agencies predict

Perhaps. My cousin helped train the Iraqi Army....they are still there....if not that effective. I was using sarcasm and hyperbole in my last post...but the truth remains....we don't give a damned as long as we don't hear from them again. If we do....this little round was nothing.

This was the assessment of the Afghan army by some Australian specialists earlier this year. They claimed high chance of desertion. They also predicted that much of the country would revert to Taliban rule.

The public spin on Afghanistan has been very different from the ground reality, it seems.

P.S. It doesn't exactly help when NATO/ISAF keep bombing wedding parties and killing little boys, regardless of who's fault it was (bad intel and all).

Iraq and Afghanistan are way different. Iraq is far more educated and progressive when compared to Afghanistan. If you expect the Taliban to be content after you are gone, you are solely mistaken.

@Developereo - Defection will be low. Desertion will be high. But this time, a complete Taliban takeover is gonna be pretty much an impossibility. In this area, US will never allow a 'no presence' policy. (Hint: Pakistan got nukes)

Like I said....who cares who rules them? Keep to yourself....you can elect gerbils for all we really care. If another attack like 9/11 comes from that region....

Speaking from my experience of training the ANP and working in Afghanistan, 2014 will be very interesting. The ANA cannot sustain itself, anyone who feels otherwise needs to tap his shoes three times and come back to Kansas.

Let them go feudal....best for that region in the long run.

It won't be a takeover in the traditional sense. The mayor of Kabul will continue to rule with American help. The rest of the country will descend into lawlessness or be under de facto Taliban rule.

American firepower will remain available to make sure the Taliban never consolidate power beyond a certain point and become the official rulers of Afghanistan.

Very true.

The US doesn't care who's running the show (never did, even about so-called human rights) as long as threats to US interests are neutralized.

No surprise ,It is always like that. US invaded country like Iraq ,Afghanistan and other countries and these countrieswill remain as liability to all whole world.
And Taliban is a Frankenstein monster .

But Taliban is no Taliban of late 1990s. Not 'open' support from Pakistan etc.

No arti, tank support..how they are going to get Kabul?

Activities will be high, calling them coming to power is very unlikely.

Would it be better if we tried to install a pack of nuts on them like Pakistan did?

Pakistan was in a tussle with several other countries over this. If it wasn't our nuts, it would have been our enemies' nuts who ruled.

Unfortunately, that's the reality. Pakistan shares the blame as well as the consequences.

Yeah....I know what you mean. Idiots were gonna be in charge (or various warlord factions of idiots). You figured best your own idiots. As an American....I understand that logic.
