Gramin Bank is famous, but I was posting about education & research institutes only. We have our share of Noble laureates from Kolkata, and their famous institutions. :D

Five Nobel Prize winners have been associated with Kolkata:

Sir Ronald Ross (1902, Medicine)
Rabindranath Tagore (1913, Literature; first Asian to win the Nobel Prize)
C V Raman (1930, Physics)
Mother Teresa (1979, Peace)
Amartya Sen (1998, Economics)

While all of them are associated with Kolkata by birth, education, or work, the 3 persons marked in bold are Calcuttans. :)

Fair enough, wished the Bengal Renaissance had touched the Muslims as well!! :hitwall: BTW apart from Grameen Bank, there is BRAC (the largest NGO in the world), International Jute Research Institute, International Mother Language institute, these are truly international organizations based in Dhaka!!! :)

Cool, thanks. :) in the meantime however, here's a satellite photo...

Alright, I know it's hard to control the excitement in these kind of topics but we should refrain from posting pics of other cities claiming ours! This one looks like an elevated expressway, not a bridge! Here are some pics of the actual bridge

The original bridge is beautiful though!

Other cities? What are you talking about mate? In my original post directed at DRAY, I requested that he post pics of the interchange and approach roads of the second Howrah Bridge, not the bridge span itself. Those satellite photos are of the interchanges at both ends of the Setu.

Fully!

Sure Dhaka has its share of reputed institutions, it is the capital city of Bangladesh. Post more about Dhaka, all the prides and beauties of Dhaka that were not posted already. I will post more tomorrow.

Though I am not absolutely sure if the photos are of the interchanges of Vidyasagar Setu, but Vidyasagar Setu does have a network of multiple flyovers or elevated expressways connecting several roads to the river bridge. Actually the bridge is very high above the ground.

Take my word for it. I know my country pretty well :D

...but if you really want to get into it, you might want to check the coordinates on Google Earth.

Don't have much of it's collection, but to start with, here's one, dunno if it's already posted or not!

Ahsan Manzil, also known as the Pink Palace, the former residence of the Nawabs of Dhaka, now turned into a museum.

BTW, very few people know that "Dariya - i - nur" the second most precious diamond after Kohinur used to be in the treasure of Ahsan Manzil, after the abolishment of zamindari system, it has been kept in Shonali Bank in Dhaka.

No, it was not posted earlier, nice photo!! :) Do check the entire thread, many nice photos are there from both the cities.

I heard about Dariya-i-nur, but didn't know that much. good that at least it is here, Koh-i-nur is gone forever!! :undecided:

dhaka might be better than kolkata in bulidings and skyline but kolkata still has better human capital, by a large margin.

Brainwashed Mullah logic!! If Pboy, Anubis like people say, I won't say anything. But you.....keep your mullah logic to yourself!!

While only India have hunger like Somalia, give me failed state over gutter state.
But the big difference is that we are progressing while you are getting worse. You are going to continue to be a pathetic failed state getting droned constantly with dreams of toppling India. There simply is no comparison. Just look at your currency and economy. You can pull all the figures about hunger and poverty you want too settle your own ego but facts are facts and anyone who goes to both countries can see the difference. Btw a failed state also includes many gutters, considering the fact you have the biggest slum in Asia (Orangi Town) and per capita more of your country are slum dwellers.

This is what Indian journalist said about Orangi town, according to her its like lower middle class area of Mumbai :laughcry: Now one can imagine actual slum of Mumbai. Orangi town is better then half of India.

You are progressing in one thing, how many more people defecate openly each year is increasing. :yahoo:
