What's new

Why didn't we look towards local production of Mi-17V5s or EH101 at PAC.

The chinese and French had invested about $860 million of its development cost which they will use for variety of roles.

In the same way we can also JV develop some new helicopters with UK in partnership with Turkey like three classes of them:
Bell407/AS550
Bell412/Lynx
Mi-17V5/EH101/NH90

These classes of choppers are needed and we could have taken it seriously and invested in these three classes of choppers to fulfill our own military and civilian needs, although we can gain some amount in exports as well.

There is some ideas that if we done JV with TAI and choose Super Puma and modify it to meet our and Turkish Armed forces needs then it will be great to have it in our production line. Or Start from scratch to create these classes with TAI and PAC in 50%-50% JV to replace the old ones and have our own ones in the fleet.

Not until zardari corruption se bharri is there.he is the enemy of Pakistan.
My father used to tell me that he used to steel neighbors goats as he was jut jahil.

PAC is the only defence production organization fulfilling needs of Air Force and Army, they are already running JF-17,Falco, Mushshak/Super Mushshak production lines and overhauling various types of domestic and foreign aircraft. Initiating any such project will only add burden to their current job, not to mention budget constraints!

We need other manufacturing company in Karachi, the one that makes helicopter and new indigenous fighter jets and its own UAVs.

But its better to start planning even from Design stage which they can do in house with TAI.

The day we AWAM destroy the Parliment and all the waderas in sice it , minus 5% of real politicians

Will be the day we will be building a Helicopter , and a Pakistani Made car and also Railway engines made in Pakistan

I love helicopters. Having flown fighter jets as well as helicopters, I can safely say that the rush you get from both types of aircrafts is tremendous.

Pakistan should manufacture their own helicopter now because Pakistan & China have made JF 17, now they should work together to make their own helicopters, transport & attack helicopters but then the problem here is Pakistan is ruled by the most corrupt person ever Zardari who is only looking at his pockets.

Iran manufactures their own Bell 412s and Cobras. But maybe that's because they have a real leadership and not some jutts sitting in the parliament and stealing from the public in broad daylight. If only we could do the same....

Before initiating the project of such nature you might want to look at the feasibility of having a helo manufacturing plant. How many numbers do we need. What would be the cost analysis and what benefit would it give us. You dont want to establish a plant only to find out that you dont need more than 70-80 of the damn things in any case. A cost benefit analysis might not look so rosy if the numbers are small. People will still find Zardari to blame but the decision making is not in his hands and the powers that be have deemed it an expensive venture with limited gains.

we should do some JV ventures and production etc with pakistan , create jobs , help local industry keep the moneys inside etc

I also think Pakistan should be actively looking for technology transfer and joint venture rather than just to build it under license, such you create a your own industry and a generation of specialized engineers otherwise would not get. I think both EU and China are more likely to do that with Pakistan.

Realistically

100 Attack helicopters are needed by Army
30 Needed just for the protection of Iran -Pakistan - China gas line
75 needed by Police & Ambulance service (Transport Units)
20 reserved for Navy - special ops
25 for Coast Guard and Anti Norcotics operations

500 Helicopters would be decent estimate for a nation size of Pakistan

300 Active , and 200 spares / engines and bodies

In All honesty we should be making our own Helicopters regardless of cost factor which I have heard since 80's look how many cobras we have since 80s .. 20-25 cobras same number since 80's due to the cost / analysis mind set
