isnt the RD-93 a variant of the RD-33? so the engines may be similar.

RD-93 is improved version of RD-33...based on the RD-33K model.

Here's the definition of RD-93 according to wikipedia

RD-93
A variant use to power the JF-17 / FC-1. According to JF-17.com "The most significant difference being the repositioning of the gearbox along the bottom of the engine casing."

Understand that RD-93 that will be equipped in the JF-17s will be further modified and upgraded version of the orginial radar. More thurst... more improvements.

so the million $ question is!. can we see a JF-17VT variant in the near future (5 yrs)?

There's more than just a gearbox, its actually an improved, more powerful and smokeless version of the RD-33K.
Check Highsea's detalied evaluation of the engine in a related thread in WAB.

ok, i dunno about that. i just posted what i saw.

However, i doubt the RD-93 would be better than the Rd-33K. Otherwise Russian and India would replce MiG-29's RD-33K engines with RD-93

The thrust is definately better then the RD-33, but india doesnt need to replace it in migs since its a twin engine plane and is not underpowered in anysense. Secondly the smoke issue that i have often seen on russian engines have been sorted out in the RD-93 version. So in overall comparision RD-93 you can say is an upgraded version of the RD-33.

The current year 2007 is almost ending, How many more JF's are we expecting within this year to join PAF? Currently i think we have four of them.

4 more by mid 2008 i think!. these 8 will comprise the operational evaluation squadron.

The JF-17 Thunder is truely a good fighter.

This shows the results of good Sino-Pak cooperation.

China appreciates Pakistan's contribution to the project and hopes this fighter would enhance the PAF capabilities.

What are the future prospects of another joint venture?
