You mean like with China and Indonesia right? Thats ok, we'll take it.

the sale to China is for influence
Ditto with Indonesia

I doubt China and Indonesia are getting the most advanced radars and avionics
plus the number of aircraft sold are too small

I would say the sale to China and Indonesia is about money.

What leverage do the Russians hold over the Chinese at this point?

The Chinese aviation industry has more or less surpassed them.

Nothing official after a lot of hot air over the last few weeks....

I fear for BAFs survival as an entity at this point.

It is such a shame and completely disheartening.

Russians make better engines and better aircraft. I am sure China will surpass them soon.
Chinese aviation industry is still unproven. Who operates J-10s ??

One topic remains constant on this forum whenever I come back from a random ban.
I'm sure others can relate.

@Nilgiri is banned now. Let's see the state when you come back.

Only the Chinese operate J-10s; but the A versions which the FC-20 is based on uses Russian engines.

The B and C are powered by the WS-10. The Chinese are behind in their turbofans but are catching up.

I expect in the future China will have alot more success in the export of its military wares including front-line multirole aircraft. i.e. FC-31 or any future examples.

Furthermore, China has basically fielded the J-20, the speed of which has surprised many.

The Su-57 program is crawling.

That alone should tell you the general state of affairs.

You are right but China is still using the Russian AL-31F on all production J-10s. WS-10A is being used on J-11B, J-15 and J-16 fighters only.

I would not lose hope.

It looks like BAF was only given the budget to look for 4+ generation fighters last year and hence the tender for 8 + 4 heavy MRCA in February 2017. Expecting a deal within 12 months of tender being floated is unrealistic, as 18-24 months is more normal.

I am not saying China is ahead or behind Russia. Chinese aircraft have not been sold to foreign air forces. The J-10 is unproven. So is the J-20. I know the PAF bought the JF-17. What choice do they have ? The JF-17 with the PAF is powered by Russian engines

Im sorry asshole... but PAF was a developer of JF-17... as for choice we had plenty in the past..

Pretty sure J-10B (batch 2 onwards) and certainly J-10C use the WS-10.

I will defer to @wanglaokan and @Deino for their input.

Oscar summed it up well:
No hate from me.

I completely believe that PAF officers were present to list their needs and also what's written here:

Learning and cooperation is a more effective way to improve working thoughts and methods. During the implementation of the JF-17/FC-1 program, China has sent out numerous experts to assist the PAF with manufacturing and staff training. Now, the manufacturing base for the 3rd generation fighter has been established in Pakistan and the airframe and main avionics equipment of the JF-17/FC-1 can be assembled, tested, and manufactured in Pakistan. Therefore, the Pakistani people have realized their dream of being able to produce modern aviation products.

Meanwhile, plenty of Pakistani engineers and technicians have come to China for work and study. The AVIC-PAF Officer Development Program (APOD) has trained many high-level officials from the PAF. Those officials from the headquarters, military bases and combat troops of the PAF come to learn the most advanced aviation technology and modern enterprise management concepts. Their visits to the first-class aviation enterprises and research institutions help them gain insight into the development of China’s aviation industry and China’s profound culture. The study and visits also enhance the PAF’s confidence and capabilities in practice, as well as the mutual understanding between CATIC and the PAF. This cooperative mode is strengthened and improved with the process of constant exchange and communication.
