What's new

Zayn Malik first Pakistani Origin Singer with US Number one

I find it funny that some people are claiming 'Pakistan' in him. He has nothing in common to pakistan, his way of life, values, habits you name it, its all british just like any other native brit.

In fact if he were to ever dare shoot such a video in Pakistan, it will be blasphemy/haram. Lol
There are still a few number of Pakistani british citizens(on paper) who still identify themselves with their home country in all aspects/tradition/values though, but this guy is not one of them at all.

He is "British-Pakistani". Similar to British-Afro-Caribean or British-African. The latter don't exactly live in mud huts do they? They live like rest of Britains but still get hypenated as -African. And he is Yorkshireman to boot like meself so that's extra points in my book.

I never said just visiting Pakistan is proof that you love Pakistan. Its all about sense of belonging and feeling of emotional connection/attachment with Pakistani roots and associating yourself with it no matter where you live is count which i did not witnessed in any interview or statement of of zayan as he consider himself British celebrity not Pakistani

It look like hello will become 2nd most views video after gangnam style

The bottom line is he is "British-Pakistani". He is similar to 10,000s youngsters from the British Pakistani community in UK which is evolving. British-Afro-Caribeans or Africans don't have to visit or shout "Viva la Africa" to be identified as British-African. Zayn Malik increasingly is the face of the newer generations of British Pakistani's.

I know Zayn's family they are from Gujar Khan good people in fact he has cousins serving in the Armed Forces. He does love Pakistan and has spent money on his area back home.

He loves Pakistan but does not like talking about politics understandably, one hard thing for him is the crazy fans they follow him everywhere, privacy settings s hard to get, lucky guy Gigi Hadid is very beautiful.

You have "British Pakistani" with boht mother and father from Pakistani origin
You have British Pakistani with father from Pakistani race while mother from white European race..

and there is difference in these two categories..people belong to second category normally become sandwich between two culture/religion

Thats good. I mean if Barak Obama who has no recollection of his dad. Never went near Africa. Has no cultural attributes that remotely be called African can still be called "Black American" well Zayn Malik who i know for fact grew up in his father's home has every right to be called British Pakistani. Unless his mum had immaculate conception and brought te kid up herself.

British Pakistani's in paricular younger generation are now diverging from their origins which is entirely natural but they still remain British Pakistan. I mean Al Pacino or Rober De Nero were born and grew in USA but still are called Italian Americans.

Yes. It's called evolutiuon. What's wrong with that? This is the narrow mindedness or village mentality that thinks like that. This is the type of mentality that sees sect, caste and other dividers as significant as evidenced in your prefix. The world is moving on from village mentality. That is why we in Pakistan were taken over and made slaves not long ago. That is why we cross oceans to earn few pounds. If we had the right mindset people would be running to Pakistan to get jobs. Not the other way.

Or you think the air or water in Pakistan is cause of our poverty? It was and is our mentality. Closed. Medieval. Barely past the feudal stage. We should all be happy he has done so well.

At least he is not bringing "shaan" to Pakistan's name by planting bombs in London.

Throw back to the original Pakistani musician that got big here - She's American, not British though.

Wish she was still making hits.

Your post is irrelevant. You are free to consider his personal achievement as achievement of Pakistani just because his father is of Pakistani origin. You are free to associate him with Pakistan even if he dont think or consider himself Pakistani or feel no emotional connection with Pakistani. My point was what is that make you a Pakistani? Is it loyalty to Pakistan? feeling emotional connection attachment with it? following Pakistani culture and way of life? Having Pakistani father and mother?

Has she stopped?

I dont think so, but she's kind of fading off. Which is unfortunate, because originally the way she popped off in the scene, you would've thought she was going a lady gaga way.(she came before gaga)

She being an American(and a minority), doing electronic(not popular then in the US) music, and getting notoriety out of no where like that was pretty big. Oh well.

To me, she was someone that, "should've been", a big star.

It's a complex. It's something that we should not arrogate to ourselves and adjudge. This is one thing I cannot stand about Pakistani's and you cannot say I am not patriotic. We go around judging people. Good Muslim bad Muslim. What do we need to do DNA tests to prove we are Pakistani? Hell his father is from Gujar Khan. I think thats only few miles east of Rawalpindi. What else do you want? Many, many British Pakistani's now are diverging from Pakistan. What you think in 100 years your great grand children will be exactly like you are? Do you think you are exactly like your great grandad?

For me all that matters he has Pakistani heritage and even better he has done something which the world will look upto. Millions on millions of people across the world when the hear Zayn Malik linked with Pakistan even if the medium is British will still do good for Pakistan. Far, far, far more then those stupid foreign ministry official or government public relations officials have done in the last 20 years. You have no idea what sort positive effect he will have on across the entire globe. My friend recently came back from South Korea and while their in a business meeting one of the Koreans came to him and shook his hand after he found out he was British Pakistani because he told him his daughter is big fan of him.

Now is that not better than those full on Ba*stards that planted bombs in London and made us all look like terorists. Do you know how many of us will have suffered from the reaction. Do you know how many of our poor students or those seekin g visa or stay in UK were refused by officials or arrested by Police because the officials ( they are human don't forget) felt annoyed at Pakistani's?

Oh well. I know what you mean. Some people explode on the scene and then sort of fade away whereas others just go higher and higher. When I first heard of Zyn Malik I though of him just as a prett boy who would just wither away. However his recent song points to real super star talent so let us see where it goes. I mean frankly I prefer the suffix Pakistan infintely more being linked to super star singer then super suicide bomber. But hey thats me I guess !!!

I would rather some random guy ask me "hey yeh man I like Zayn Malik's songs" then "hey man take off your jacket" in case you got bomb hidden inside.

Ps. Talking of fading away. When Leonardo DiCaprio came on the scene I though he was just face. Titanic further reinforced my feeling but since then his movies have been getting better and better. He is noe one of Hollywood's greats.

I never judged anyone. Calm down. You are just getting emotional over nothing. I am free to express my opinion about him or anyone. He has Pakistani heritage? where? I see that he is just like any other western white brit living his life as per western culture even though his father is Pakistani. For me he is only Pakistani if he give any importance to Pakistan or has any emotional feelings or connection with culture and land of his father i,e Pakistan. These are my opinions

If some British born Pakistani are singer, boxer and cricketer then British media just label them British but if some British born Pakistani commit act of terrorism then same media label them Pakistani terrorists.

@Raja.Pakistani No worries. I am just tired. I have been doing some work on the computer and my eyes are falling out of my head. I think I need to go sleep.

I am not into his or 1 directions music, but I somehow feel like him going solo is going to be a good thing for his career. Could be like a Justin Timberlake, Beyonce affect. I am not familiar with 1 Direction, but I've heard he was the most talented out of the group, like how Beyonce and Timberlake was in their group.
