Zaslon Active Protection System​

Zaslon can stop the rocket-propelled grenades with speed up to 1200 m / s

The system consists of the radar unit + the steering unit + the unit of measurement
The system provides tanks with full protection for 360 degree
Destroys the shells from the top and from all sides
Response speed 0.1 seconds

Turkey made an urgent order to protect its armored vehicles participating in the olive branch operation:

The active Ukrainian tank protection system (Zaslon)
With 120 systems to be installed on the tanks participating in Operation "olive branch"
It will be distributed as follows:

40 for Leopard 2A4 tank system

40 for Mbra-T Sabra tank system

40 for M60-A3 tank system

(Turkish own active protection system will enter service in 2020)

So far Turkey lost 1 tank completely destroyed + 1 tank bursting cannon + 3 armored + 2 bulldozer (Trax) .... During 17 days of mountain fighting

Two New Contracts by ROKETSAN and ASELSAN



Turkish companies ASELSAN and ROKETSAN signed two new agreements in Ukraine. ASELSAN signed a sales contract for the supply of "Zaslon-L" Active Protection Systems with SFTE Spets Techno Export, while ROKETSAN signed a cooperation agreement with the same company for the joint development of explosive reactive armor (ERA).

The reactive armor system jointly developed by Turkey and Ukraine under the framework agreement signed by ROKETSAN Chairman M. Emin Alpman and Deputy Director Vladyslav Belbas on behalf of SFTE Spets will be used on Turkey's tanks to provide protection against the anti-tank missiles.

Domestic equivalent called AKKOR with ~60ms reaction time (Zaslon-L: 100ms) will be on Turkish tanks by 2020 !

Zaslon seems practical and low cost but infantry nearby can be injured by the debris of the protection system. It needs to be customized for our order like the option to be activated on sides facing enemy positions that way and soldiers can be placed accordingly. A debris of the destroyed atgm can trigger all sides which would injure unprotected infantry nearby it should be tested accordingly. Generally terrorists attack when the vehicles are stationed on our bases and it would be somewhat effective for our vehicles protection. We can make a deal with Ukraine to transfer production capability as well without much difficulty.

Akkor is a direct hit system. It looks more expensive with radar tracking and a projectile system but since it is effective from longer ranges it can protect a mobile column with much less vehicles equipped by it.

A passive lighter version of akkor is also possible in my opinion to be installed on smaller vehicles. When atgm is detected from long range by a vehicle smoke screen and similar measures can be used by vehicles in the column to evade moving to a secure position.

Zaslon is old Soviet concept which was not very successful. Its not real APS since it destroys rockets right on the armor and not in the air.

Zaslon considered only as stopgap solution until Akkor is developed. While Akkor is based on rotating launchers similar to Israeli Trophy and Iron Fist.

Arena uses static launchers around turret. It makes system more bulky and more collateral damage compare to rotating launcher systems.
