Zardari to bring good news on return
Sunday, July 13, 2008
By Usman Manzoor
ISLAMABAD: PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari is going to bring some good news for the nation when he returns to the country soon, a top PPP leader said on Saturday without disclosing what the news could be.

But the PPP sources in Rawalpindi said in his long stay abroad, Zardari had obtained clearances from the guarantors of the Benazir-Musharraf deal for the impeachment of the president and the restoration of the deposed judges.

In his talks in Dubai, Turkey and Europe, Zardari argued that unless these two issues were removed from the national agenda, the economic situation would continue to deteriorate and that would be bad for everybody.

"The PPP co-chairman has told the Abu Dhabi government, the Saudis, the Turks and the Americans that for the survival of his party and the political system in Pakistan, it was necessary to impeach the president and restore the deposed judges," said the sources.

The sources added that within the PPP, the more important and more discussed issue was the impeachment of Musharraf and not the restoration of the judges.

The discussions also noted that if the judges were restored, deposed chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry would have to either go or work with curtailed powers.

The PPP sources said Zardari had called the meeting of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and three ministers, including Sherry Rehman, Khursheed Shah and Qamar Zaman Kaira, in Dubai to discuss the situation after talks with the international guarantors of the deal.

Responding to a question, a PPP leader said everyone, including the PPP co-chairman, realised that the survival of the PPP was linked to the restoration of the sacked judiciary and the impeachment of Pervez Musharraf. But to keep his word with the guarantors of the Benazir-Musharraf deal, Zardari had tried to take them on board, the PPP leader added.

The sources said the meeting of the PPP leaders in Dubai was not a cabinet meeting.

It was a meeting among the close aides of the PPP co-chairman to discuss the possible situation that might arise after the impeachment of President Musharraf and the restoration of the sacked judiciary.

What rubbish.

He wants international permission to impeach Musharraf.

Impeach him as the REPRESENTATIVES of Pakistan, not as stooges of the 'guarantors'.

Haha yesterdays papers were splashed with Gillani and Shk Mohammad pics. Gillani looked like a masoom beggar and Shk Mo sat beside him like a King.

The 90s Pakistan is truly back. Kashkol and Klashnikov.

It's what the "Awam" want - let them have it. In the end same much maligned guardians will have to clean up the mess - yet again.

.
The best news that Zardari can give us is that he has a terminal illness and only 3 weeks to live.
