Actually, according to the news, he saw the poster and the wildlife agency to collect them. But he must be sad about that. Nonetheless, wise decision, because, no matter how cute, these are probably potentially dangerous animals.

While it is very possible that the man is simply oblivious, there is also the possibility that the guy is stupid, but only in the sense that he wants a "cool" pet and wanted a bear in the first place. However, since raising bears as pet is stupid, dangerous and illegal. He did it in secret and when he got caught, he feigned obliviousness to get away from punishment.

It is just a native term for brown bear in Northeast China. It is not that strange either, considering English speakers also call ladybugs their name despite the fact they look nothing like a lady. Mongoose also has nothing to do with goose and Turkey isn't from Turkey.

BTW, the native term from Northeast China refer the Asian black bear as the blind bear "熊瞎子".
