^^ Nothing reliable is available regarding S-300.

However what i have heard is that we did evaluate S-300 and did not opt for it because it was felt at the high level that there was no immediate threat and hence we would go for the better version of Long range SAMs when available..
And S-500 is one of the probable candidate..( Dont ask for elaboration..some things should better be PARDE MEIN.. )

No its not exactly correct. India purchased six S-300 batteries, with 48 missiles per battery.

But i am surprised we dodnt buy more. The low number of batteries indicate that they are probably meant as defence against ballistic missiles, and not aircraft.

I have read about S-500 and i think it should be the one to be stated as the desirable one. Alas it is not operational so i would go with S-400 system man.

Next is THAAD for me.

Hey what about Arrow?? can some one tell me should it be counted only under ABM system or can it be also considered as a SAM??

S 400 for sure but S 300 is not that bad too sir anyway israeli arrow and iron domes are good but they are low or medium range and S 300 and S 400 cover all low medium and High alttitude ranges in one

1) Iron Domes :- Very low level/against cruise missiles
2) Akash :- Low to middle range.
3)Arrow/Spyder :- Middle range
4) S-300 :- Long range.

Externally at least, the Akash missile appears to be very similar - if not identical - to the Russian 2K12 Kub (SA-6 Gainfull). So, what the Akash system does it have over this old Russian system?

For (V)SHORADS, I'm very taken by the landbased Defender Air Defence System, which combines the towed Dutch (Thales NL) Flycatcher Mk2 with a towed version of the Barak VL PDMS and towed AAA such as Swiss, Chinese or South-African twin 35mm or Italian twin 40mm gun mounts.
