What's new

You won't believe how cool Ubuntu is

forget ubuntu chrome is gone give microsoft a bit of run on netbooks and low end desktops. But still I dont find any OS coming even close to Microsoft.

Chromium OS comes in handy only when you have high speed internet and just need it for offcial purpose. But with Ubuntu you can install Lubuntu desktop environment which just needs 192 mb of ram and a P3 class of computer. Chomium OS has long way to go.

Windows is crap. Just a bunch of memory eater.

And who cares about memory any more. Most applications, most games, Best office suite. For a common user there is nothing like Microsoft. Most who go for linux come back to windows in a week. Windows 7 is a big improvement very stable and a smooth runner.

I have used ubuntu time and time again. It's only good for software development, that's it. For general purpose work, Windows is far more better. In fact there isn't even a comparison.

I've installed and distributed Ubuntu and other Linux versions to many of my friends/families and others..I do recommend it but I do inform them of pros and cons. However I've gone through all OS and picked up Windows as No 1 Choice second in line is Linux and plainly rejected mac OS series frankly anyday I would pick ubuntu over mac os.

These days Memory is cheap to buy even for a ubuntu OS installed you may need to upgrade memory for so many reasons.
Be grateful to Windows it served you well for many years.

I've to point out here users who switch to Linux version don't necessarily come back to windows but they do keep running windows side by side i believe its a good approach.

Note: Keep away fro chrome os I find it vulnerable and against privacy.

The argument against memory is just outdated now. You buy any cheap computer today, whether desktop or laptop - it will have at least 4GB of RAM. Even a dirt cheap one will have 3GB of RAM. 3GB will be more than enough for windows in most cases. 4GB will be even better. And more and more computers are coming with 6GB or 8GB installed. So the complaints about memory are pointless now.

Been there, done that. Trust me you'll start to miss some of the mainstream apps, especially specialist ones like Adobe...

Linux in general is better for the casual user, web browsing, pictures, music etc. I would never use it as my main OS. For me it goes like this Mac OS >= Windows > Linux.

I started using Ubuntu recently and am so disgusted, I can't wait to go back to Windows.

The automatic updates are a nightmare; things that worked one day stop working at random. The keyboard freezes periodically in eclipse.

The user interface is a disaster. Microsoft spent millions on focus groups and studies to figure out what works and what doesn't. Rather than learn from their experience and copy it, the open source geekfest decided to go their own way, in their typical, arrogant, I-know-best fashion. Just one example, the confirmation dialog has the 'No' or 'Cancel' button as the default, first button. This is wrong 99% of the time and forces the user to press an extra key.

I was a hardcore Unix guy back in the day. Used Solaris, AIX, SunOS. Even worked on the AIX kernel.

But now I can't wait to go back to developing under Windows. Things actually work on Windows without having to be a hacker or a masochist.

mac os comes down in the list.

By the way a question from mac fans, I was wondering why is it that mac os is even losing to Linux instead of expanding market it keep on a negative track trying to downplay Microsoft bashing propagating stupid anti Microsoft videos yet it gets lose slap in the face, why has it become so person issue with Apple for losing large Operating System market that fairly Linux has captured with so many free goodies comes along Linux that windows insist begging asking for pennies to earn.
Fortune 500 companies have MS Windows and Linux no apple OS.

Developereo...what version do you have?

of course,

nothing comes closer to Windows! - Windows 7 is the best

Linux second best at the moment.

Windows best only because i can run all my applications on windows but for forex i have to compromise some companies as they do not support linux platform at the moment

Photoshop is another reason

otherwise linux is very easy to use and i liked it for many reasons

During college time we had used Ubuntu and Fedora. Both were very cool. They had very strong security and user defined applications.

Ohh.. So many Lovers of Linux here.. I had very good old days with Linux.. specially Red Hat and Suse way back in 2002-2004.. I developed device driver for printer in Linux for my final year engineering project.. I played with Solaris 10 as well when they made it for Intel chipset..Then I left using it when I got a job.. the only problem I faced that time was not very groups were available and hence drivers, Boot issues (LILO/GRUB) were frequent... Some times Solaris even leave its GUI as well.. But seeing people's enthu I rethink of installing it to my laptop.. lets see how it goes...

You dont find anything on Linux. Lets face it. Microsoft made mistakes by rushing in with new operating systems but they have learnt their lesson. Windows 7 rules. Just because Ubuntu is free and has a passionate following does not mean it is best.

Win 7 has made life mush more easier!
But, i still prefer Win XP, ofcourse you can edit it if yu know Prof IT ;)

I personally liked Mac OS due to many reasons but do use Win7 as well (for games only) using Parallels Desktop. The only downside of Mac OS is games, rest it is on par with windows in applications. Every third party application vendor do releases the mac version along, you just name the application and you'll get a better version in Mac OS (my POV).
