Sub continent is a vast region, which includes many diverse ethnicities, nations and states. I do not know where exactly it originated. As far as I know, it is completely absent in our culture (Pakistan), and no body really knows anything about it.

I dont know why you guys are so obsessed with wanting to ' own' things, ideas,processes etc.

I see. I guess for some reason it never really reached the region of Pakistan or at least never got popular here... Most people here are oblivious to what yoga is, and never have heard of it. Only educated people are familiar with the term, but that is mostly because of American pop culture and how it is promoted through television.


PS: You know when you watch American television, there is this one clichéd episode, there is a guy who goes through a phase in which he tries to make a superficial attempt to be "spiritual" and he picks up yogo. etc.

It did reach all regions where Hinduism, Budhism , Sikhism reached. Like all other things in most placed it was assimilated & adapted into local lands while in certain other lands like all things that did n0t belong or conform to a religion it was pushed into the background.

If Budhism could reach Bamiyan so could have yoga.

Yoga is not a state specific subject.It has been developed by many sages for thousand of years to control their breath and reduce the heart beat rate.What we practise today is merely physical exercises.
As far as secularism is concerned,no other religion existed in the subcontinent when Yoga was being developed by ancient saints and seers.It was a process to reach salvation and calling it communal either would be a false idea.

yoga basically is a type of Hindu religious prayer or practice, but today people who are confident that" their god wouldn't mind making use of it's benefits purely as an exercise" is practicing it..it's good as long as it stays as optional in a secular country .. or any type of country.

Yoga originated in times of mythology back then there were no states there was only Bharatha. States came in to existence only later after hundreds of years.
