Yanukovych team sells two Ukrainian bombers, buyer unknown - read on - uatoday.tv

Fugitive former President suspected of high treason, creating criminal organizations

UNIAN: Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) of Ukraine is investigating into a deal closed by entourage of ex-president Viktor Yanukovych on selling two Tu-95 MS ("Bear") strategic bombers, capable of carrying nuclear weapons, according to legal news web portal at 1i.com.ua

It is reported that the PGO has received court approval to carry out searches of premises of state-run defense industry conglomerate Ukroboronprom, state enterprise Mykolaiv Aircraft Repair Plant NARP; and has been granted access to examining documents at the Accounting center for surplus and discarded property of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The court approval was provided for investigating the criminal offense that is related to unlawful disposal of property owned by Ukrainian Defense Ministry - Tu-95MS aircraft produced in 1987 (serial numbers 100211732386 and 1000212733144).

The PGO is also searching for aircraft parts, technical documentation and other documents related to the trade, inspection, evaluation, repair, dismantling, storage, payment for services and transportation of these aircraft.

According to preliminary information, the deal could have been closed in the second half of 2013 - January 2014, as evidenced by the dates of the relevant documents analyzed by the PGO.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was Iran

Ukraine sold them Kh-55 cruise missiles which the Tu-95MS is optimized to carry.

who else would want two Tu-95 that can easily be detected and shot down?

Probably Turkey. Ukraine and Turkey have close coop in this field. We might use these models for research and development.

You can never have enough information on your adversaries systems, no matter their age. The US B-52 is over 50 years old, constant upgrades keep adversaries guessing and the air-frames serviceable.
But I think China could benefit the most from the planes, from the engines to the engineering involved. America would not have that big an issue with the minor tweaks that were added to the blame, because Ukraine would not be privy to the latest technology. There is even a chance Russia was getting their planes back because they feared things would destabilize.
Ps Is this Sven if i throw my gauntlet..

there was an additional order of the Tu 95 after which this next gen bomber was pushed back. I think it happened a few months ago.

On the other end. India might be a customer too since her Bear F's need spares.

The US for evaluation purposes?

The United States has a history of buying Ex-Ukrainian military equipment, so it's a possibility too.

I don't know, something tells me China has better options to learn from than the TU-95MS.
The NK-12 remains the most powerful turboprop engine ever built. Only recently the Progress D-27 and Europrop TP400 came somewhat close. It powered the Tupolev Tu-95 bomber and its descendants like the Tu-142 maritime patrol aircraft and the Tupolev Tu-114 airliner (with NK-12MV), which is still the world's fastest propeller-driven aircraft. It also powered the Antonov An-22 Antei (with NK-12MA), the world's largest aircraft at the time, and several types of amphibious assault craft, such as the A-90 Orlyonok "Ekranoplan" and the Zubr class LCAC.
Only China would need help in engines, I doubt America really does, it leads the world in this aspect. But then again, the American Government is very proactive as you pointed out. Iran seems very difficult in sanctions honestly.
