Yamaha plant to be set up in Karachi

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has welcomed an investment, which could be up to $150 million, by Yamaha, a Japanese company, for the establishment of a manufacturing plant in Karachi.

The plant will provide employment opportunities to 25,000 engineers, technicians and labour in Karachi. The chief minister (CM) said while speaking to the country director of the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO) Kaoru Shiaishi who called on him along with his research analyst Saadia Manzoor at the CM house.

“The transfer of automobile and electronic technology from Japan to Sindh will prove to be an instrumental source for the development and prosperity in the province,” he said.

He highlighted the importance of economic development and offered full administrative support to Japanese companies.

Addressing the delegation, the chief minister said that 2,000 acres of land has been earmarked by the government for the establishment of the Japan Special Economic Zone along with National Highways in Karachi, where all necessary infrastructural facilities would be provided to Japanese companies for their investment.

In addition, the Sindh government has recommended the Federal Board of Investment, through a summary, for declaring the National Industrial Park (NIP) at Bin-Qasim a ‘Special Economic Zone’ to facilitate the Japanese Company for the setting up of the Yamaha manufacturing plant.

Yamaha already has a plant in Pakistan in collaboration with Dawoods

TOKYO (Kyodo) -- Yamaha Motor Co. will build a motorcycle plant in Pakistan with the aim of starting production in 2015, in an attempt to expand its business in an untapped emerging market, company President Hiroyuki Yanagi said Friday in an interview with Kyodo News.

Yamaha will first invest 1.3 billion yen in the Pakistani plant before increasing the amount to a total of 10 billion yen by 2020 to raise its production capacity to 400,000 units a year.

"Motorcycles sold now in Pakistan are mainly Chinese-made, but they are very old," Yanagi said. "We'd like to stimulate the market by introducing new models."

Yamaha has set its initial production target at 40,000 units per year.

The motorcycle market in Pakistan is expected to double to 3 million units in 2020 from the 2013 level of 1.5 million, according to the Japanese manufacturer.

Its most probably for Heavy Bikes

If Honda and Yamaha are not bringing better design and efficient Bikes in Pakistan no point in investing whatever people may say india, singapore even thailand has better designed and quality Bikes.

@AZADPAKISTAN2009, this is exactly what should be done ban further registration of motorbikes, those who currently own can renew and switch numbers to the newer models/newer bikes and give the older bikes for recycle. About Buses well showbaz sharif is not interested in bringing to the mainstream but he/his government wants those shitty metro buses....can you imagine in 50-60b a few km metro bus service road along with few buses? that's a massive corruption and nobody is asking them how in the hell can this be.
