pre order open today on mainland website.

I had JD's e-reader (the low-cost version). But, it was kind of not good for reading English text.

Will switch to Xiaomi. From descriptions, looks great. Will capture huge market.

In Xiaomi Taibei stores, half of the stuff is sold out most of the time.

They need greater stockpile.

JD format is not good. I am using this one. Lower ppi, it's ok for me. I have duel OS, one original kindle, the other Duokan system, which support mobi, azw3, epub, pdf, txt, etc.

I can preorder Xiaomi ebook pro today, save 200 RMB.

167 dollars is kinda expensive for a EReader.

Not so for a 7.8-inch ereader. It is still cheaper than Kobo forma (8 inches), Boyue Likebook Mars (7.8 inches).

Personally, I am looking for a chance to grab Xiaomi Moaan Inkpad X, a 10-inch one. The quoted price is about $260. Still steep but I want a 10-inch one for technical paper reading.

Edit: Actually with its retail price, it is on par with Kobo forma when the latter is on sale. Kobo forma doesn't have a good browser. The existing one cannot read Chinese websites at all.

Xiaomi specs is better than kindle oasis which is 370 USD. and you can get tons of books for free in epub, mobi format.
I will go for xiaomi 7.8 inch. 6 inch is just ok for English, but Chinese character is much more complicated than Alphabet, I have to zoom in a little more, 7.8 is the right size, the same size of iPad mini.

Kindle Oasis is a 7" one. It should be compared with Kobo Libre H2O. One extra inch makes a huge difference. The selling point of Kindle is not really the device, but its ecosystem.

Kindle ecosystem means nothing to me. I can buy kindle ebook from amazon and download the book and copy over to Xiaomi or any other ereader.
You can either use calibre to convert the book to epub, a lot of e reader support azw3 as well.

Most people don't read a lot of books. The device itself makes a lot of difference. Make me love to read or hate to read on e reader.

In China, books are so cheap, I can always find second hand books. Like this one below, I bought from www.kongfz.com , it cost me 30 RMB (4 USD) including shipping.

So I will always try to find printed books, it feels better.

ereader is great for people who read a lot and prefer being mobile. Carrying a lot of books is a hassle.
