Xi cites Confucius as positive example for modern nation

Why does the monarch have to be equal to the country? Are there no countries without monarchs? Confucius said that the monarch is the least important. And what does Confucius say about family values? Obedience, or dependency? What are, indeed, family values? I believe that in 1950's-1980's China, there was much stronger family values than in 1840's-1930's. Even today there are stronger family values than 1840's-1930's.

You do not remember life from 1930's - ask those who lived through it and weren't rich. You only know movies and books - romanticized movies and books. You do not know that you would even like living in a purely Confucian monarchy.

In the past, there was 榷盐,榷铁,the first state owned monopolies for the distribution of goods, during the Han Dynasty. The natural evolution of Chinese history - science, trade, moving towards equality. Chinese society moved from a weak society of small farmers ruled by despotic warlords and kings - to a strong empire with centralized monarchy and finally to republicanism and a scientific, trading and military great power.

You aren't treated disrespectfully because you are small, you are treated disrespectfully because you deserve it.
Confucius never said the monarch is the least important, mencius said compare with people and country, monarch is not most important, but then again this not means monarch is not important,Confucius also said 臣事君以忠(the subjects should serve the monarch with loyalty)
Why monarch is important in anciet China?Because without a monarch, there was no peace, and if everyone want to be monarch, then the country will be in chaos. After all, this is social contract, the monarches have government, army, jail and so on to protect his subjects from war and crime.Without these, can you live in a country? If you attacked by a mob,how can you do?In every society, these problems exist.Every societies should have a rule, this is simple.Even the monarch is a tyant, one tyant is still better than millions tyants,so in a cociety, only can be one monarch. You can use modern values against this, but it's senseless.
Then 1930s not Confucian society, but a capitalist one,the peasents were already suffer in poverty, the reason of the poverty is capitalist invasion, destroyed the Chinese small farming system. The Confucian society was based on small farmers, there were no real landlords in China, because no one own serfs, someone have more farmland, but if they want those farmland get used, they should rent the lands to poorer farmers, still he has no feudal rights on the poorer farmers, only thing he can did is to get the rents from his farmland. This is not the landlordism of Russia and west Europe, all of those farmers(rich and poor) are equal in the law.
As for family values,I favour bigger family, and don't get the liberal ideas such as feminism, gay(lesbian),the infant abortion and so on

So basically you want a social system that cannot compete with those of advanced nations, and you are wondering why it has failed. OK. Keep waiting for superman to save you, but don't force this choice on others.

This is a side effect of capitalism, and being opened up to rest of the world. Since China has very tiny inroads in global mainstream culture, and global mainstream culture is dominated by the west (especially US) this is very understandable. China should be able to invest into it's culture industry and should make it more globally recognized. That's how such values can be preserved. Banning foreign movies or websites will just delay the problem, not solve it.

You cannot overcome prejudice with reason because it is not based on logic.

There is no point in trying to "get into" global mainstream culture. It has already been tried. In the early 2000's there were many Chinese movies in Hollywood and stars like Jet Li, Jackie Chan - did that help in any way? No. The better way is to replace it with a new mainstream - a better mainstream - through hard power.

In early 2000's, no Americans showed any respect whatsoever to Chinese - Jet Li, Jackie Chan were considered successes *despite* their background, not *because* of it. Today, there is at least grudging respect, and among the young, much less prejudice. Was it better media? No, PR today and PR in 2005 were the same and in many cases worse. Was it because of less media bias? No, in 2005 China was barely ever in the Western news. The only thing that has changed is hard power. Once you have hard power, all the rest flow naturally.

u r using Google translate, u don‘t understand Chinese。Don’t posing Taiwanren
傻冒一个,我还用google翻译?My Chinese maybe better than yours

LOL

Taiwan is part of China but not part of Communist.

Taiwan is just a very traditional country, more than mainland. But caught in the middle of Cold War up to today.

We don't want to fall into Communist. As well as strong US present, controlling Taiwan politics thru political party and media for US interest.

There's also minority who love Japan and hold big power. As RoC anti Chinese civilization education narrative, as well as bad Japan occupation memory fade away and Japan soft power kick in. It seems like a good coincidence.

If US never involved in Taiwan, Taiwan will be very different! Much different! I think we will more bold, much Confucian..

Talk about fengshui... a lot of misinformation out there, and fake fengshui xiansheng. Bad people can't get the correct fengshui and always met fake fengshui xiansheng.
I am questionining if you are really from Taiwan, because you know Hanyu pinyin, such as xiansheng. Taiwanese studied 注音, they are not familiar with pinyin.

Have you ever heard of the saying, "Beauty is in the eye (ear) of the beholder" ? Well the same applies here, my dear. Out of the languages in South East Asia, there are two languages that I find very pleasing to the ear (soft), it is Thai and Lao languages. Whenever I go to a Thai restaurant and eat, I can't help but listen to the servers/ cooks talk. Such a sweet sounding language.

Thai, Lao languages are part of the Tai kadai language family, btw. The closest that resembles the historical language and script by your great King -- Ramkhamhaeng-- is Northern Thai and Lao dialect. It was much later on during the time of Ayudhaya that many of the words and script of the Khmers was borrowed. That's why in Thai language you guys can say "Rs", this is similar to the Khmer language. But in northern Thai (Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai dialect), and Lao language, they do not have "Rs" but only pronounced as "L" or "H".

Example:

In the Thai language to say "Thank you very much" you will say --- Kap Kun Krahp. (Notice that the R is emphasized, and sometimes rolled).

But in the Lao language to say "Thank you very much" you will say -- Kawp jai lai lai.
