The number of Chinese cities with a GDP of more than 1 trillion RMB ($154 billion) has increased to 14, with the addition of Wuxi in eastern China’s Jiangsu province and Changsha in central China’s Hunan province.

On Jan. 7, Wuxi Mayor Wang Quan announced in a local government work report that the GDP of the city was expected to reach 1.05 trillion RMB in 2017, up by 7.4%. The mayor noted that it marked a historical breakthrough in Wuxi’s development and enhanced the city’s comprehensive strength.

Changsha also confirmed that its GDP surpassed the trillion RMB mark in 2017, with a growth of 9.0%.

Before the addition of Wuxi and Changsha, China had a total of 12 cities with a GDP of more than 1 trillion RMB. Shanghai was the first city to join the club. And three of the 14 cities have achieved GPDs of 2 trillion: Shanghai, Beijing, and Shenzhen.

All of the 14 cities have a strong economic radiance, and their GDP value accounts for 29.4% of the national total.

Foshan in southern China’s Guangdong province secured a 95-million-RMB GDP in 2017. It is expected to be the 15th city to join the trillion yuan club.

Finally, a second trillion-yuan city in Central China.
Changsha is my second hometown, I have many relatives there.
I once spent my entire summer vacation in Changsha's Hunan Uni campus where my uncle taught.
We are brother cities, Wuhan Changsha, just one hour apart by bullet trains.

So many good memories on this bridge and on the Yuelu Mountain.
Walking on the mountain after dinner was the best!

The Xiang River first bridge has not changed.
There is a very very long isle in the middle of the river.
The entire isle is a huge park.

The east side of the river is the main city, the very far end of the main boulevard is the railway station.
The west side is where universities and mountains are.
Bus 312 connected the old station in the far east all the way to the long-distance coach station in the far west.
I was on this bus from the station to the bus terminal for thousands of times!

Now, everything has changed except for the bridge.
The new west coach terminal is bigger than an airport.
I no longer use the old station, because now we take bullet trains from the new South HSR Station.
The old town is delicately preserved, all the historic buildings are there.
Chairman Mao's favourite restaurant is still there, now 3-4 floors!

The environment around is amazing.
The entire mountain is a huge park.
You can take the slideway or cablecar.

It seems that....an entire city has been built on Changsha's west bank.
That region used to be only a small town called 荣湾镇。。。。。。

Changsha Municipal Government was moved to the west bank to support new zones.....

East bank....still bigger, but much older....need lots of urban redevelopment master plans....

Now, we can finally call Changsha a city on both banks of the river.....

This is where I used to hang around after dinner in Changsha....
