What's new

World's biggest population looks towards Pakistan for food.

Unfortunately, corporations and capitalists do not work that way.

British encouraged and forced Indian farmers to grow Tobacco, Cotton and Tea instead of food grains even as Indians were dying with famine.

Chinese eat Rice not Wheat. Will Pakistan stop growing wheat and start producing Rice and Soya beans to export to Chinese?
Classic Indian comments. Any topic should be related to China, but also their own imagination of China, the fact is not important, the important thing is to say according to their own imagination.
China is the world's largest consumer and largest producer of wheat, and is equal to the European Union.
China has diversified food and drink due to climate and geography. All regions of China have their own diet and culture.

Now tell us much soya beans are being imported and from where?

After US sanctions, Would Soyabeans from Pakistan be better than Soyabeans from Brazil?

.
Pakistanis should be given a physiological treatment. All of them. They can never look at anything positively.
Pointing out faults in every perfect thing has become our habit.
he is a indians , not Pakistan .he has india flag . Because it is Indian, so its comment is not surprising .

No matter where it comes from, as long as it is not the United States . Soyabeans Less or more , It doesn't matter .
US sanctions ?We are not afraid. This is good for us . This can accelerate the decline of the United States.
Why do you mention soybeans in Pakistan? Does it matter? America's soybeans are better , We don't buy them yet. We prefer to buy soybeans other than the United States.
I can only say that under the same conditions, we will give priority to Pakistan.Similarly, Pakistan treats us like this.Pakistan is not short of friends and brothers, but lacks products that can be made available.Of course, India also lacks competitive products.

.
China also produces a lot soybeans, but it's just more economical to buy in the world market cause it's cheap.

Soybeans harvest in China

In other words, China will be taking control over agricultural lands in Pakistan.
Again rundi Rona started by our neighbor
Sonny pak has large swaths of Farrow lands millions of acres which r cultivable but we don't have the resources besides its not talking about selling em the lands but leasing em on annual fee

We must be careful. No foreign owned farms, no leasing of farm land, no foreign workers on the farms.

Farming is the easiest industry for us to expand. The idiots in government should use state land to make state owned farms and hire farmers on a salary to make produce. These farms should be managed by people with qualifications in horticulture, agriculture and ecology.
The state owned farms r the worst performers low productivity millions of rs equipment just rust away or parts stollen

what will be your opinion if we lease it to india then you will say it is good
CPEC will see the Chinese leasing Pakistani farmlands.

For instance, thousands of acres of agricultural land will be leased out to Chinese enterprises to set up “demonstration projects” in areas ranging from seed varieties to irrigation technology.

And giving away farms to other countries has been going on for quite some time.

@BHarwana

Another problem with the cotton crop is that farmers use too much urea. The plant gets strong vegetative growth which attracts pests which then attack the crop during the fruiting phase.

There are millions of acres of land waiting to put in use with drip irrigation. No shortage of fertile land in Pakistan, just need better technology and investment to take advantage of.

.
China also set up many farms in many central Asian countries and Russia's far east, it's a win win business.

So how will we upgrade our agricultural technology and processes if we don't allow foreigners in? We are still employing centuries old methods. Our yields are very low. This jealousy of foreigners profiting from our lands will ensure that we remain backward.

Yes you are correct the growth of the plant also has to be controlled but growth also greatly depends on type of seed you are using. Fertilizer and water should be controlled for cotton I agree with you there.

You can hire consultants, pay them fees to suggest and implement improvements - but at no cost should we be giving up our land on 100 year leases so others can profit from it.

If you can't afford consultants, then make do with your shitty old techniques. The 1 roti that you earn by yourself, us 100 times better for you than the 2 rotis that someone else gives you.

State owned farms ought to be the most efficient. it's about putting competent people in place, not safarshi people.

We can't afford the expertise or the capital. Investors have a personal interest in the success of the project so they are the best course of action. Profit motive and all that.

Food is a strategic asset. You bring in Chinese companies and they'll deliver the high yields, but they'll only deliver them using their seeds, which they'll supply, so you'll be reliant on them for providing seed.

We are a nation in the middle of a water crisis, when it comes to the crunch and there isn't enough water to go round, do you trust government to share water fairly, or will they prioritise the Chinese companies who will consider anything else a breach of contract and probably have built in fines to prevent against this sort of thing.

They will flood the market locally and internationally making Chinese grown food cheaper than Pakistani grown food. Your own farmers will slowly end up out of business and once the competition is dead they'll want to increase prices because suddenly the market conditions allow them to do so.

Today even if we are penniless, Pakistan can grow enough food to feed it's own people, this is a strategic asset even more important than nuclear weapons. Why would you risk it for pennies on the dollar today?

I hate this third world mentality that some of us have. We jump at every shiny coin we see. It's the same with people wanting to let foreign companies operate mines and take away our resources for money.

It doesn't matter if it takes longer, or is less profitable, as long as it is profitable - do it yourself.

That's what China thought before 1980's, back then we were a net food exporter. Back in the 80's and 90's , a lot of Chinese intellectuals passionately argued against open market economy, they believed that that new policy was gonna kill China's every industry and agriculture cause we were so backward in everything, we couldn't even put up a decent fight in any competition against advanced foreign competitors, a hard won national independence which cost hundreds of millions of our countrymen's lives was going down the drain and we were gonna fall into a economic colony of the world powers again in no time.
