Worlds Best Bridge Defence Award 2009
KARACHI, Oct. 21: Pakistan's top bridge player Hasan Askari was awarded the Gidwani Family Trust Defence of year award for outstanding performances during 2009 in Bermuda Bowl held in Sao Pauloin Brazil, Pakistan Bridge Federation (PBF) announced on Thursday.
The award was announced by International Bridge Press Association (IBPA) for his best defence in Bermuda Bowl in the entire world.
Hasan Askari the member of Pakistan's Giants team and made history in round 17 for Pakistan's match against Italy.
"This is an outstanding achievement by Hasan Askri and PBF and whole of bridge fraternity was delighted with the award," PBF Chief Tariq Rasheed Khan said announcing the details of the award.
The match recorded by the IBPA Best Journalist Philips Alder, in Board 16 Hasan Askari defense the making contract of 6 Spade of opponent to down one which give Pakistan 17 IMPs in this board.
The IBPA shortlist the Gunnar Hallbery (England), Peter Boyd (USA), Grzegorz Narkiewicz (Poland), Nikolai Demirev (USA), Gordon Campbell/Piotr Klimowicz (Canada) and Hasan Askari (Pakistan) for this award.
Hasan Askari's defence got the top IBPA 537.4 points. Gunnar Hallbery got second place with 537.3 and Peter Boyd was on third place with 537.14 points.
