World Bank sees massive job loss, dire future for Bangladesh economy

.
Did you watch the video in post #64? That says of the real India where people go to jungle defecate. This is the result of bringing all the national money to build a few prestige projects while poor are neglected in a way that they have no place to piss. And, this is what you call development and progress!!

No wonder, India remains below sub-Saharan Africa where people live a cleaner life than the average Indian does. Better set the priorities on the national development. This is what we are doing. So, learn from us. now, enjoy a few minutes of video on BD development created by a Turkish TV Channel.

Please go take your bengali test assigned from your headmistress in ABC school here. You still have not done so! :astagh:

Bodrolok-bodrolok cooperation between BAL and Turk media can mean a lot to you if you want....with data fudging feel good propaganda that sits nicely with erdogan-neo ottoman "ummah-globalism" propaganda outlet.

We prefer aam-admi regular folk - folk cooperation between our peoples India and Turkey (and any country). Like when they buy a product of ours that actually takes a higher level competence (among regulars) to do:

This in the end helps even our much smaller population aam-aadmi regular cities (forget our bigger cities) to be brighter and more industrious than your "bodrolok BAL" capital Dhaka in the end as NASA showed:

https://www.cnn.com/2017/04/13/asia/india-nasa-satellite-night-trnd/index.html

This all matters more to us than paper-fudging of your bodrolok BAL elitists. You can have your 30%+ inflated GDP to see how much it really helps you borrow more money with junk credit rating.

It means we keep a good 2+ trillion market cap steady...rather than wipe out 40 billion at such low base like yours (70 bn drop to 30 bn) in just a year thanks to your bottom 10% corrupt paper-number-reliant govt.

Our leaders and parties as bad as they are, still have to earn their election results and compete against each other to deliver to common man. They can't just concoct a 95% seat win and use a BCL thug group to enforce it. That is more a feature for a least developed country.

I think you are getting mixed up with the actual dates that the Minister was forecasting for.

You are working on Jan 1 to Dec 31 2020, whereas the Minister meant July 1 2019 - Jun 30 2020 which is the 2019/2020 fiscal.

I think he should have just said we can aim or achieve for 6% growth rather than the bravado he has shown.

If ADB predicted this month BD can get 7.8% growth for 2019-2020 then I think 6% is very possible.

The confusion is not on my end. The Minister is responding to IMF and World Bank assessment for FY2020 while quoting ADB forecasts which, as you said, includes data from two previous quarters. This is not sensible talk. Put simply what is the growth going to be for FY2020? Which area of the economy is going carry the economy that is being dragged down by industrial, services and construction sectors? Are we expecting growth in remittances? Quite the opposite, foreign workers are suffering due to COVID lockdowns and they won't be compensated for income losses by host countries so we can expect lower remittances for FY2020.

However, I expect a breakthrough from Oxford University research group which will start massive step by step trials on volunteers from May this year. A successful vaccine will kill the disease and business will return to normalcy throughout the world that includes BD as well.

People are expecting a vaccine breakthrough but what happens if there isn't one? 30 million people have died due to HIV in the last 30 years and we still don't have an HIV vaccine. Many are cautioning to temper our expectations about a possible vaccine breakthrough and rightly so.

Never let a crisis go to waste.

It is high time to enact reforms that will set us on the path of growth for the next decade.

Finance Minister of a nation should not be speaking in this manner. This kind of BAL mathematics defies logic and while it is aimed at domestic politics, it will negatively effect investor confidence. Restraint is the name of the game here.
লেখাপড়া না করে, যার নাই কোনো গতি
শুধু সেই করে রঙ্গবাজি আর রাজনীতি।

It is not only BAL but almost all political leaders are similarly ignoramus on math as well as other subjects. Having thus no prospect to get employment they usually join political parties, shout slogans and someday become leaders of the Nation.

A few months before, the Finance Minister Mostafa proclaimed a $1 trillion budget someday in BD. Note that our present budget is $62 billion now.

AIDs and Covid-19 is TOTALLY different. One is from an unknown family and the other is from the coronavirus line that is widely seen before and vaccines have been developed for many different strains of it already.
There was also not much effort to find a vaccine for AIDS as it can easily be avoided catching, unlike Covid-19. Also there was a massive stigma for people with HIV, unlike Covid-19.

Oxford is one of the top universities in the world and attracts the best academics.
They have put their reputation on the line by saying they are 80% confident that they will have a ready to mass produce an effective vaccine by September this year. A university like Oxford would not have allowed their researchers to make this claim without good reason.

The chances are that a working vaccine will be ready by September this year and then it will take 3-6 months before the whole of the world's population has access to it.

Yes it may not happen but on probability is that it will. We need to start seeing the glass as half-full than half-empty.
