ISLAMABAD: Federal Petroleum Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said on Tuesday work on the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project is expected to begin in September.

Abbasi said the time-frame on when work would begin on the pipeline depended on the nuclear agreement between Iran and world powers.

He added that under the agreement Pakistan had to lay down pipeline 700 KM which may take over two years.

Pakistan's foreign ministry welcomed the agreement that was reached between Iran and world powers in Vienna.

In a statement released Tuesday, the ministry said Pakistan had consistently maintained that the Iran nuclear issue should be peacefully resolved through dialogue. Noting Pakistan's position as a neighbor to Iran, the foreign ministry said such confidence-building measures "auger well for peace and security in our region."

Pakistan hopes news of a deal over Iran's contested nuclear program will help it complete a gas pipeline linking it to the Islamic Republic.

Pakistan's National Security Adviser Sartaj Aziz said Tuesday he "welcomed" the deal.

Washington for years has opposed Pakistan's bid to import natural gas from Tehran. Pakistan needs the pipeline to supply power to its weak electrical grid.

A Pakistani defense analyst, retired Gen. Talat Masood, told The Associated Press: "Because of this agreement ... I think Washington will stop opposing the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project."

but Saudis wont allow us

. .
It was held up by the sanctions now those are gone it can begin

The Saudis are free to offer us something better

Economic corridor will link into Iran eventually

. .
This gas pipeline must have been built years ago but our slavish rulers put Saudi and American interests above and over Pakistan's national interests.

Good thing it didn't start earlier cuz gas price will be cheaper after removal of sanctions.

we will be punished with LeJ proxy terrorism and blowing up of the pipelines

. . . .
Thats the best justification u can come up with . Even after the lng kick backs fiasco

Exactly ! It was such a stupid post that I did not even reply to him !

I don't have to justify to you or to anyone else.

Its a fact. No one can do business with Iran until sanctions are removed and naturally once removed oil and gas prices will come down significantly.

Oh and one more thing. Its not just GOP that has good relations with Saudis, the Military also has its own vested interests. They get aid, airbases, jobs, and orders from uncle sam. Tell me when was the last time you heard a General visiting Iran or dictators in the past wanting to have good relations ?

Isn't the perfect reason to visit Iran and have good relations ! Even US and USSR had more bilateral visits and meetings during the cold war. Some people have no diplomatic skills !
