Work to begin soon on Iran-Pakistan pipeline: Abbasi

Isn't the perfect reason to visit Iran and have good relations ! Even US and USSR had more bilateral visits and meetings during the cold war. Some people have no diplomatic skills !

Pakistan and Iran are neighbours, US and USSR are NOT.

What has our Military done to stop infiltration of Sunni Terrorists to Iran ? Activities in the past and present such as supporting and beating brutally of Shias in Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Bahrain, and Yemen proves otherwise.

Its a fact. No one can do business with Iran until sanctions are removed

China and India did not get that memo since they continue to buy oil and gas from Iran ! Excuses and excuses !!

Good questions ! Ask our slavish and inept rulers and generals who take orders from Saudi Arabia and US !

China is a permanent member of UN and 2nd largest economy in the world.

India is the 3rd largest economy in the world and has significant lobbying groups.

I'm sure little countries can't dare to do anything with Iran.

Pakistan ? Well we have a unique case. We never had an independent foreign policy. GOP and Military always fighting for influence, although both share same views.

The military should stick to what it is trained and paid to do i.e. defend our borders and not run Pakistan's foreign policy. The politically ambitious Generals can quit the Armed forces and join the foreign service or run for the elections. When in uniform they should mind the borders !

If seen from commercial point of view this pipeline is in best interest of Pakistan irrespective of who objects to it or supports it

Exactly ! But our slavish rulers would ignore national interests with lame excuses. Pakistan's Afghan policy and Iran gas pipeline policy is complete failure hurting national interests !!!! Some people never learn and keep making the same stupid mistakes.

Own national interests must be paramount for any country, weather India joins or not, Saudi Arabia objects or not, it was in best interests of energy hungry Pakistan to complete this pipeline long back

It will get built. This isn't 2008. China WANTS it. Pakistan NEEDS it. Saudi can SUCK it. It's simple, take away geopolitics and sunni shia nonsense. Pakistan has one major obstacle for stability and economic growth: lack of power (electricity, not military). Having a cheap gas station next door, a country with whom you have normal relations, is a no-brainer. It will happen, and it will happen quickly. It's a corner stone of Pakistan's future, and of CPEC. And I'm sure you guys will get a very good price too. Let the good times begin. Zende bad Pakistan!

You had my vote after the 5th sentence.

PMLn, if this project actually starts, would finish it likely late 2017. Don't expect before. Lots of kickbacks to be made. Maybe even early 2018.

Also it'd be nice election boost. If gas outage is elimated and electricity outage shortened, it's automatic win for PMLn.

Finally it's well known that parties across world like to deliver good stuff before election. If you give them at start of term, people forget that.

This should be the first order of business as energy needs are dire.

ISLAMABAD: Federal Petroleum Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said on Tuesday work on the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project is expected to begin in September.

Abbasi said the time-frame on when work would begin on the pipeline depended on the nuclear agreement between Iran and world powers.

He added that under the agreement Pakistan had to lay down pipeline 700 KM which may take over two years.

I think not just Gas but Oil as well. Pakistan should welcome Iranian Oil and Gas to Pakistan Southern region with supply to India and also continue the deal with Turkmenistan about Oil and Gas to Pakistan Northern region also to supply it to China.
