Work harder to beat the Bangalore challenge: Obama to students

US President Barack Obama has exhorted American students to toil harder at school, saying their success would determine the country’s leadership in a world where children in Bangalore and Beijing were raring to race ahead.

Mr. Obama has repeatedly said that American schools would have to ensure that they continue producing leagues of top professionals, so that the American hegemony in human resource continues in this century.

“At a time when other countries are competing with us like never before, when students around the world in Beijing, China, or Bangalore, India, are working harder than ever, and doing better than ever, your success in school is not just going to determine your success, it’s going to determine America’s success in the 21st century,” Mr. Obama said.
:P

“The farther you go in school, the farther you’re going to go in life,” he told students at a school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Last year, while announcing an end of tax incentives to US companies which created jobs overseas, Mr. Obama had launched the ‘Say no to Bangalore and yes to Buffalo,’ slogan. :D

Since then, he has time and again mentioned the competition coming in from developing countries like China and India while asking Americans to rise to the challenge to keep the American supremacy alive. :argh:

”... you’ve got an obligation to yourselves, and America has an obligation to you, to make sure you’re getting the best education possible,” Mr. Obama said in his latest remarks.

He said preparing the students for success in classroom, college and career would also require an enormous collective effort of teachers, principals as well as the administration.

“It’s going to take outstanding principal and outstanding teachers who are going above and beyond the call of duty for their students,” he said.

Asking the students to work harder than everybody else and seek out new challenges, he said his call was directed at all Americans alike.

”... I’m not just speaking to all of you, I’m speaking to kids all across the country. And I want them to all here that same message: That’s the kind of excellence we’ve got to promote in all of America’s schools,” Mr. Obama said.

Yes me too......Show India Show!!

these measures are counter productive .....our soft skills and the huge number of engineers we churn out every year can hardly be ignored by those U.S companies in favor of American general science graduates overnight......besides its no one way street....all their investment in India in turn benefits them in several ways......end of tax incentives for the U.S companies will only see German and Japanese ones flock to our shores.....

So which country's companies are outsourcing to 1000s of BPO's all over India??:blink:

I wrote that from Obama's speech that he says american companies stop outsource in India.

seriously, american students beating us, these kids learn newtons laws at their 12th grade, while we have them on our lips since class 5, america should change its education system if it wants to beat us

yes bro.... though we must admit that at a certain point in our academic careers we are forced to rote learn exccesively changing our priorities from developing a " genuine love for the subject" to " trying to garner as much marks as possible".....

Yes, that's probably why they lead the world in science and technology.

And a large part of that leadership has been achieved through the efforts of Indian, Chinese, and Korean immigrants. In addition to the post WWII contributions of Germans, Russian defectors, and so on. One of America's major plus points has been its diversity and the welcome it offerred to skilled immigrants from all over.

If you think America's technological success is largely due to first-generation immigrants, you really haven't spent time in leading research institutions. Remember, since we are talking about education systems, that people who receive most of their education in the US count as Americans, not immigrants.

the Indian American community in America includes a huge number of second and third generation immigrants.....all the IIT graduates responsible for placing Silicon Valley at the technological peak that is today emmigrated from India in the 1960's and 1970's.....a huge number act as faculty members in the technological institutes like MIT ,Carnegie mellon, Philadelphia , Berkeley...etc...also
there was a survey conducted by a respectable American organization
which detailed the education levels of different ethnic groups ....they placed Jews and Indians at the first place with a huge majority of post graduate degree holders and Phd holders amongst us......

my dear friend 38% of the scientists in NASA are Indians and Chinese, silicon valley prefers indian and chinese students over the americans because of their vast knowledge and hardwork , and thats why obama is worried, its only that we guys dont get recognized for what we do, i doubt if there students can even clear the AIEEE exam here and of course not forgetting the IIT exam which along with indian officers selection test known as the SSB is considered the hardest exam in the world:wave:
