ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said on Tuesday that if he were in power, army would not have entered the tribal areas.

Addressing his sit-in, which has shrunk, Khan said that if he was elected prime minister, he would not allow army to enter in tribal areas, instead the tribal men would become soldiers. Khan said that “tribal people are our army” and a time will come “when we will establish peace in the entire region without fighting”. Imran said he knows that closing down the country would increase the problems faced by the people but he also knows that “only sacrifices could pave the way to freedom”. He said that all the political parties have joined together against the PTI, “but the government leaders do not know that PTI has many more plans in the pipeline”.

Khan said that he could not do anything single-handedly and noted he won the World Cup with the support of a team too. “The people of the country would make a ‘new Pakistan’ and not me,” he added. Then PTI chairman also said that flawless elections would form the basis of a “new Pakistan”. Imran said he would just show the people the path to be followed. He said ending poverty is not that difficult, it just needs right decisions. Khan resolved to steer around 110 million people of the country out of poverty and said that it would be a challenge for an Islamic welfare country to end poverty.

He further said that he never thought for a single moment that he would not succeed and that God grants more power to people if they try to stand up after falling down. Khan said Pakistan’s destiny would change if only 200 honest professionals were appointed on key posts. He said that people have laid out foundation of “Naya Pakistan”. “To lift out 110 million people of the poverty line would be the major challenge we will be facing after building the Naya Pakistan,” he said. The PTI chairman pledged that he would put an end to ongoing target killings and violence in Karachi.

“Target killings could not stop until the police remain political,” Khan said while referring to violence in the mega city. Taking credit, he said that PTI has depoliticised the police in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where his party is in power. The cricketer-turned-politician further stated that his ongoing sit-in in Islamabad have given a lot of awareness to the general public. Imran claimed that the wrist watch that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif wears is worth Rs 30 million.

This is the level of intellect of a leader who doesn't even know the dynamics of raising army from within tribal areas and the knowledge of what's the progress of Army in on going operations and why tribal lashkars are not applicable for fighting CI wars !

for example, From recent Wajahat S Khan Zarb e Azb report

"Almost every household here was infected by the economy of terror,” says Brigadier Azhar Abbasi. “Regular folk here maintained a basement with a torture chamber or a private jail in their house, because they would hold hostages for kidnapper networks in the mainland...A hostage from Karachi or Lahore [Pakistan’s main cities] would end up in the basement of a shopkeeper here, tucked away from the grip of the law, waiting for his ransom...almost every family depended on abduction, crime, narcotics, gun-running, smuggling or terror economy, directly or indirectly.

Pray tell us Mr.Khan how would you have raised an army from with N.Waziristan to fight Foriegn and local terrorist groups?

. .
Will he allow huge shutdowns ,dharnas, Tsunamis every now and then, if he becomes PM?

Pakistan needs to establish the writ of the State in the tribal areas - the Army is not the only way to do so.

Pakistan can gradually keep increasing the police forces till the time the police becomes a relevant institution in that area.

I can give an example of Bihar(India). Bihar had no writ of state around till 90's except for small pockets. The entire area(99% rural) was run by private militias/army and might is right was the defining principle. All parties and landlords had armies.

Over the decades from 80's to 2000, the Government of Bihar kept recruiting more and more police till the time it automatically became a relevant institution - where people would start going to complain about theft/xyz. The police became relevant because the police constables wanted bribes and cuts - and so they tried to make themselves relevant just to make money. They HAD to reduce the militias being run by the landlords/political leaders so they could become the big dogs.
They are notoriously corrupt - but a corrupt police force is infinitely better than no police force.

Slowly, the police started getting better in quality as well as media and people started focusing on them. Its still one of the worst police forces in the country, but the situation there is also infinitely better than what it used to be in the 80's and 90's.
UP and Bihar are called the badlands of India.

Maybe, this example can serve as guiding post for Pakistan's initiative to bring Tribal areas under Government authority.

Let's just say If Bihar had a 2000 KM border with Bengal, would your solution still be applicable that you can solve problem with Police only? Considering all the illegal cross border, ethnic violence and related problems are being faced by those areas who has problem with Illegal bengali migrants !

We do have this problem - West Bengal has a 2000 km border with Bangladesh with a massive illegal immigration problem.
Put a paramilitary force at the border and increase police in the area.
When the number of police becomes overwhelming, they start taking on these other gangs and groups on their own so they can take over the illegal extortion business. Its still better though.

If the tribals dont want the Army there, use some other means. Politics is the art of the possible, get the same objectives achieved using the path of least resistance from the locals.

By subsidizing naswar for those who join up.
Does anybody even take him seriously anymore?

So essentially you're solution to militancy in FATA is a corrupt police force. :cheesy:

and that is exactly why you cant be the PM of Pakistan , Mr.Khan .....
stop portraying the Terrorist sympathizers as innocent as babies ,
Tribal areas are part of Pakistan and PA has all the right to go and stop any anti state activities there , and kill those who are killing innocent Pakistani's and arrest those who are helping them ... I strongly believe Pakistan army should make Bases in All over Fata , recruit personnel from there ... and always keep check on Pak-Afghan border ... kick out all afghans from Pakistan ...and if Mr Khan , if you love tribals so much , kindly build a house in NW and start living there with jamima :)

Rome was not built in one day.
Technology helps in removal of corruptions.
Come to India and see how digitization of various government process has removed corruptions, for example income tax department, online auctions, ebidding on tenders, CCTV city surveillance etc etc

Army is not suppose to maintain local law and order. Its the duty of police and local administration.
