Women will be 'exposed to evil' if permitted to drive, says Saudi grand mufti

Nuh uh. Nope, not buying. Those poor women were just going about their business, you know women stuff like blabbing endlessly about their day, or painting their nails, texting their bae, or something stupid like that, when all the sudden that bunghole cuts them off trying to get the perfect parking spot.

What's a poor, frightened women to do?

If you answered "gun it" and "sue for emotional damage" you have won:partay:.

Ah, so that's why it happens. As for what she is supposed to do, get her husband/boyfriend to drive hahahah. I hear you're responsible for the raising of car insurance premiums in Oslo, single handed.

Hot blonds makes the mad....lols

No way, that'd be a great day. Just think of all the things we could do, that've rightfully lead to the bad women driver stereotype, that'd no longer be dangerous!

We could text, eat, bone... all that great stuff without you guys worrying about us causing problems on the road:tongue:.

Ah, so that's why it happens.

That and the photos shows a car being hit from the side - as noted by the crushed impact zone - and not the rear, which wouldn't have made the car flip onto the hood. It's pretty clear one car was trying to move in front of the other. And it looks like the flipped car was trying to go for a parking spot, based on the direction the car is facing.

Seems like someone was in a hurry for half-price off beer cozies.

I sound like an accident expert don't I:D? Wonder how?

But what if my "boyfriend" is a girl:o:? Two women can't very well trade driving spots can they?

Yup, that's probably what'd happen.

But we follow gossips which tell us lot

. .
How come KSA not allowing women to drive a issue for DAWN and UK's independent? Don't these two media outlets have enough issue plaguing their dysfunctional countries to worry abt ? May be their main target is Islam and the respected scholar giving his opinion on a issue that should not concern these intellectually colonized liberal loons. That's an unhealthy level obsession on the part of the western liberals.

"Their country, their laws" assumes that their entire country made those laws.

The women there didn't have any say in laws that made them beneath men. Come to think of it, men didn't have a say either - laws there are not made by men and women at large, but by a small handful of religious elite - all of them men, of course.

All adults choosing representatives who make laws on their behalf - ie, democracy - hasn't visited them yet.

And who makes laws in USA? Bunch of crook congressmen under the firm grip of the rich 1% americans. Your democrazy is the epitome of fraud and hypocrisy. Btw why does the laws in KSA bother your little mind so much? I don't think the arabs bother themselves with what goes on in your egalitarian dog eat dog society called America.

When did u do PHD in islamic jurisprudence to issue fatwas ? Btw internet is halal. Islam doesn't view the world in black and white. Intricate details and various other factors are taken into consideration before declaring something to be halal or haram and all of these r within a basic framework outlined by Quran and sunnah. Islamic scholars off course are the only ones most qualified to issue fatwas and verdicts regarding such issues and not everyday tom , dick and harry even if he/she is a Harvard or Princeton graduate.

The cleric told a religious TV channel Almajd that men with "weak spirits" and who are "obsessed with women" could cause female drivers harm, and women driving alone would also leave families unaware of their whereabouts.

Hmmm...So he believes in desperate sexually obsessed men with weak spirits stalking Saudi women!! Jeeez! Someone please ask him why men are after only Saudi women? There are millions of women driving vehicles around the globe. Why do they stalk only Saudi women?? Or are the Saudi men the most lecherous on the planet?

Women will be 'exposed to evil' if permitted to drive, says Saudi grand mufti
DAWN.COM — PUBLISHED ABOUT 4 HOURS AGO

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia's top cleric Sheikh Abdullah al-Sheikh has justified a ban on driving for females, saying women behind the wheels would be "exposed to evil", reported The Independent.

Although driving is not technically illegal for women in Saudi Arabia, it is the only country in the world that prohibits women from doing so by not issuing licenses.

The cleric told a religious TV channel Almajd that men with "weak spirits" and who are "obsessed with women" could cause female drivers harm, and women driving alone would also leave families unaware of their whereabouts.

The cleric caused controversy earlier this year when he issued a fatwa, or religious ruling, against playing chess on television, saying the game was “included under gambling” and was “a waste of time and money and a cause for hatred and enmity between players”.

In 2014, Al-Sheikh had also used his platform to speak against social media and social networking site Twitter, calling it a “a source of lies” and "the source of all evil and devastation".

As evident in the recorded and authentic history of Islam, many women were present on military campaigns in foreign lands in significant numbers. They even participated in the battles in various support roles.
In a few instances when a raiding enemy column bypassed the main army and struck the camp, the women actively defended the camps etc.

I am taking the example of a foreign military expedition because clearly it presents a great peril and exposure to really nasty repercussions when compared with driving to a retail store!!!

Why did the first generation of Muslims not confine their women if indeed this was an Islamic directive?
I think the Muslims of the golden era of Islam were more concerned with the concept of equality, justice and welfare. They were neither insecure about themselves nor were they confused about what is their role in society.
They did not create any artificial confines for the women who were given a lot of rights including right of inheritance which were denied to them in Arabia before Islam.

In this context, two interesting well known examples of the first generation of Muslims come to my mind which are quite contrary to the views of such modern clerics who advocate a confined role for women (for their own safety :disagree:)

1) When the famed warrior Zarrar was captured by the Romans, his sister actively participated in the rescue effort despite being found out and her feats of valor impressed the legendary General Khalid bin Waleed (RA) to such an extent that he openly praised their parents who had reared such a son and a daughter.

2) As the battle of Yarmuk dragged on against the Romans, both Zubair (RA) and his wife Asma (RA) did rounds of the Muslim army on their horses to raise the morale of the troops.
