Women on the throne: From Indira to Raziya

They still would have acquired nuclear weapons one way or another. I think India-Pakistan enmity is one of the biggest enmities on earth. Nations can do anything to go one above the other.

Both countries unfortunately are investing too much on military even now because both countries don't trust each other.

If India has not played a role in creating BD even pakistan would not have had nukes.

And they would have been separate nations anyway , but this time without nukes.

Anyway all this is in the realm of speculation.

US were pals with china and they did not really want or care about pakistan. Its IG single minded pursuit of creating BD that drew the 7th fleet into the Bay of Bengal.

Then the smiling buddha in 1974 prompted US to take India more seriously as an enemy and we became a global outcasts when they created NPT and CTBT to keep India down and out.

Who gained in all of this ? CHINA.

Women are the most powerful beings in the world

but only in the kitchen.:whistle::whistle::whistle:

You are the lucky one.

You did not have to face my grandmother, or my mother, or my sister, or my wife, or my daughter.

The first two might have cleaned their kitchen using you, if the fancy struck them.

Let me share a story that I remember from when I was 8 or 9 years old.

The most powerful policeman in India used to be a character called the Director, Intelligence Bureau. Under Nehru, the Director IB was a particularly powerful, particularly feared man, a man named B. N. (Bhola) Mallik. On that occasion, he and the head of the state police, the Inspector General, were house guests of my parents up in the north of the state, near what every amateur strategist called the Chicken's Neck, the Siliguri Corridor.

Bhola Mallik had a pronounced tendency to ball-rag people he didn't like. He didn't like the IG, so there they were, sitting in the drawing room, drinking tea with my mother, and Mallik kept on, and on, and on needling the IG, who was sweating and decidedly uncomfortable. I hung around clinging to my mother, watching open-mouthed at a situation that was pretty ridiculous even to a child. My father, being outranked hugely, sat there pale and grim, studiously examining the glass in the French windows.

All of a sudden, my mother decided that it was time to intervene. She leaned forward, smiled beautifully at the great man, and said,"You are supposed to be a great horticulturist. Tell me, Mr. Mallik, what should I do for my roses to take?" Mallik immediately got the point, changed the topic, and the temperature eased off by at least five degrees.

Kitchen! Hah! My mother was the descendant of a long line of landowners, and could be very feudal on occasion. My father was a very powerful man - towards the end of his service, even the ministers feared him - and he was very careful to keep on her right side at all times.

Men are physically stronger though and that's a fact. But this is really interesting. Women on an average survive better than men in adverse events.
Physical strength matters in an uncivilized world.
In Indian subcontinent, we put so much pressure on females. We all know how our mothers and sisters keep working on daily chores while we snt around on pdf and elsewhere. But when they get equal opportunity to develop their personality, I don't think they are behind men.

That's what I'm saying. For East Pakistan to be separate, a civil war was needed. If there was civil war when Pakistan had nuclear weapons, Pakistan would have blamed India for civil war. I know you are saying Pakistan acquired nuclear weapons precisely because of the civil war but I don't agree. After India became nuclear, Pakistan would have anyway acquired nuclear weapons one way or the other. As I said, both countries absolutely despise each other and nuclear weapons to both countries was the balance in the region. US/China would anyway have supplied nuclear weapons to Pakistan.

Yeah certainly interesting times. Some say Jesus Christ visited India and was influenced by the teachings of Lord Buddha. A lot of coincidence.

I'm not implying that I agree with the above though. I'm just saying that even that is interesting info.

Yeah our soldiers should and military generals should certainly be given credit but they still had to receive the go ahead signal from PM and President.

No, no, she was not the brains behind the plan; nothing of the sort, @ChennaiDude.

A bit of background: we were furious at what we saw as the abandonment of the Bengalis to their fate, and there was increasing resentment of the Government of India's lackadaisical attitude and total lack of concern. We were just coming out of a spell of Naxalite insurgency, where my family, I included, were deeply involved, and everyone was worried that this would revive that hostility towards the centre. She had to react to Operation Searchlight; temperatures in Bengal were getting higher and higher. It was about a week after that fateful Cabinet meeting that the Bengali member of that cabinet, the Minister for Law, told us that Manekshaw had been asked to take action and had flatly refused.

The history books have the rest of the story.

Maneckshaw delayed the attack, right? He wanted to attack at a more opportune time.

I remember My Uncle mentioning the same as well-(He was part of the Engineering wing of the Army-Not sure exactly, retired as a Major/Bangalore Cantonment)- He always says if not for Manekshaw India would not have been able to liberate Bangladesh-It would most probably be a stale mate and with US Support Pakistan would have been able to implement Marshal law in the East.

Very sad to see what is supposed to be a defence forum be a platform for male feminism, reversing the natural order.

If you're a man who thinks women rulers are cool, I think you might have low testosterone levels and I recommend you do strength training.

In Islam, we have seen many women leading... yeah Allah just reversed the nature.

WHAT THE HELL? HOW ARE YOU NOT EVEN BANNED? Please keep your third class approach to society merely to yourself.

Why are you guys always arguing about the correct interpretation of Islam? I've always observed Muslims arguing with each other about what Islam says for these things, what it doesn't. For once, start using common sense. God has given us brains for a reason.

You forget to add the insurgencies in Punjab and Kashmir after 1971 ... what ever we as nation achieved , we have lost much more .
I still believe India should have return the East Pakistan back to Pakistan and get the other disputes settle on the table.
We have lost so many innocents after the creation of Bangladesh

IG was the worst.

Like I said, her ONLY positive was how she handled the creation of BD.

Best to forget her and move on.
