Women in Saudi Arabia 'to vote and run in elections'

One question regarding Saudi king Abdullah. He is born in 1923 and his youngest son born in 2003. So he became father at the age of 80?!!:eek::eek:

He has four wives and 22 children.

All hail King Abdullah. I kept telling you guys things are changing but noooooo nobody listened to me.

Not only this but women will alos be a part of the Shoura council.... Which is our senate sort to speak. 99% of the Shoura's legislation become law.

ALSO... On another news the Shoura council have opened the file of women driving today. And all signs says they will be able to soon. God I am so happy right now.

If it is true it is certainly a good news for Saudi Arabia.

The path for building a Knowledge society is constructed on the bedrock of liberal polity.

The intellectual Development of a society is directly dependent upon how much it tolerates dissent.A society which tolerates dissent lead to a situation in which people are free to think on various nuances of an issue thus enhancing creativity.

Sadly Saudi Arabia is one of most conformist society in the world. If Saudis does not withdraw their religious police from streets they could not progress at all and Arabs are bound to remain well dumb. Now before i am accused of generalising,I would clarify that by saying "Arabs are Dumb" i did not meant that "All Arabs are dumb".What i meant was that a Creative person in a conformist society is a misfit hence rare while in a permissive society it is a norm.Even you probably cannot disagree that Arab's markers for educational development are not high.I have read somewhere that total literary output(Book publishing) of whole middle east is less than the number of books Spain Translates.Building Costly Universities would not change this situation because of reasons of simple statistical distribution. You must have heard about Bell Curve.According to Bell curve any Physical and cognitive attribute is evenly distributed in a population,Which when plotted on a graph gives a Bell shaped curve.Genetically endowment is very rare which are represented at the both ends of curve. So when your king says that "no religious police would be allowed on university campus",He misses an important point that all the deserving Arabs may not be inside that University.

Anyway i dont know how to post links but following topics would be helpful in substantiating what i am talking about.

1.McClelland study relating to need of Achivement.
2.Baumrind description of types of Parenting
3.Miller and Swanson study on socialisation of children
4.Malinowoski's study on Trobriand islanders.
5.Magret Mead study on sex and temperament in three primitive societies.
6.Ruth Bendict's book patterns of culture
7.Child rearing practices
8.Bell curve

The Ideology that dominated KSA is Islam. Not Wahhabism or salfism. Ever since King Abdullah came to power he started a powerful wave against the backward mentality that used to dominate the religious clergy. The first thing he did was to take the power away from them in regards to Education and gave it to more open minded individuals.

We are not funding the spread of an ideology anymore our funds no longer go to creating religious schools but to create hospitals and universities. These universities are under total control of their respective governments. That is one.

Two. Most of our funds now go to educate the Saudi people in science and the like instead of it going to other countries. A
Ot of people are still stuck in the past about Saudi Arabia mainly because we went into a loner stage of trying to build our country and cleaning up our own back yard.

Those uptight religious clergy are the most hated people in Saudi Arabia. And this news you see today is just one of the many things that shows how they have lost control of the country.

Ideology of KSA is Islam, but which school of thought?

Further, it is good if it has left funding other countries for creating madressas etc. People are still stuck in the past bcaz whatever KSA did in past is 'presently' faced by those people.

Welcome to 21st century. When will women be allowed to drive? In 2209, I guess. Abit slow but certainly a progress.

Women being in the Shoura meaning that a lot of Women's problems will be solved. That they are in the Shoura is far more better than "driving" Which is taken way out of proportion. Don't get me wrong I am one of the biggest activists in Women's rights in KSA but wht King Abdullah did her was giving women the power to change laws in the country.

This is what Manal Al-Shareif the leader of the Women2Drive campaign in her twitter yesterday "We asked King Abdullah to let us Drive a car, He said now you can drive a country"

I admit we have wronged the world but remember the first victims of the one who started this are us. It is a different country now we have far better leaders and far more educated and well trained people in charge. The change is yet to seep out of KSA but I guess only time will change things. It took years to build the Infrastructure of what has happened and like so it won't disappear over night. And remember the same very people who are doing all these things see KSA as their first and main target
