I am afraid people still largely vote along the community lines that is why political parties field Hindu candidates "mostly" in Hindu dominated regions. Only in J&K and certain Muslim dominated districts in Assam, UP, Gujarat, Bihar, Andhara and WB we see Muslim nominations.

Agreed India is divided but people are not so divide as it seems, remember IAC(india against corruption) movement was success not because Anna Hazare was hindu but people saw honest leader in him.

Question is do we have such great personality among minority community ?

We have lot of great personalities in almost all spheres as stated in OP but not in politics - one should wonder why

He was our President - Presidents are ceremonial posts - mostly like a reward for either exceptional achievement in national service or political work for the winning party - we have had both kinds - some exceptional patriots like Kalam and RadhaKrishnan and some stooges and bootlickers. Selection is through nomination and not elections.

The fact remains he like our other minority PM- Manmohan was nominated.

You would also be interested to know that Kalam was hounded out of second term as president though that has to do more with politics and less with religion.

Still as stated in OP - we have had exceptional Muslim Leaders in all spheres but just not in Politics. Kalam was scientist not a politician.

We dont have Sikh PM, Gujarathi PM, Hindu PM or Muslim PM, we have only Indian Prime Minister.As long as any person keeps India above his own personal religion, caste or creed he will be accepted

No. Not a possibility !!!!!!
Reasons
- to become a PM you need to be a leader of the Party who has majority in Lok Sabh. So regional parties are out of question. Collation govt is NOT likely to happen in near future.
- So you need to be in a National Party.
1. Congress - they have a family and leadership go to them naturally.
2. BJP - most of leadership come from RSS cader so no.

And a important point - Muslim leadership hardly try to influence voters out of religion !!!!!
Congress/RJD/JDU parties have influenced Muslim population but there isn't any leader who can top the ladder.

As some body pointed out above its not Hindu, Sikh, Muslim PM its PM of India

Above all Indian Muslims are Indian not by chance but by choice.

But given the current status there is very low probability of a Muslim Indian becoming a PM. First of all they are not adequately represented in politics. They are merely treated as a vote bank be it either by a Muslim leader or Hindu leader.

Some people like the Hindu right wingers will have doubts about a Muslim PM's approach. But our institutions are such that a PM can't do a thing without taking the responsibility as he/she is accountable to the Parliament of India which in turn is accountable to the people of India. Such is the beauty of our democracy.

Well India has a higher chance of accepting a Muslim PM than Pakistan accepting a non Muslim PM. So I voted Yes, it is quite possible. The Indians I've met irl are more tolerant and open minded than the vast majority of Indian posters on this forum though, maybe it is something about this forum but it seems to attract the reactionary right wingers of all countries.

Absolutely, you have already had 2 presidents who were moslem. Give credit to India it is very possible. In Pakistan or Bangladesh - I really doubt if a Hindu can ever become PM.

If a whole PIA plane which was filled with muslims was stopped for a hindu than there's a chance of Pakistani hindus becoming a PM in Pakistan if they want, But a muslim pm in india

Constitutionally a Muslims can become PM of India.

And Indian political scene is full of surprises. Hence I would not be surprised if a Muslim becomes the PM of India.

I personally would like a Muslim from Kashmir Valley to becomes the PM of India.
