:smokin:The heat is on. After Japan, the Chinese have stepped up their rhetoric against the Philippines. Will China start the first war against the Philippines over the Ren'ai Reef? Seems they are keen to see blood. Maybe the new Chinese leadership wants to show that they are tough.

I think the Philippine marines currently stationed on the shoal must calculate the worst: an invasion. Just wonder if America comes to help.

The Philippines' seizure of Ren'ai Reef in the South China Sea is unacceptable to China, a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said Friday.

Spokeswoman Hua Chunying said at a regular press briefing that China's determination and will to safeguard its national sovereignty is unswerving.

China has indisputable sovereignty over the Nansha Islands and its surrounding waters, which include Ren'ai Reef, she said.

The comments came after a Philippine security official said Wednesday that the country had deployed a fresh batch of marines and supplies to Ren'ai Reef.

The spokeswoman urged the Philippines to cease all provocative acts and work together with China to safeguard peace and stability in the South China Sea.

This old warship, the BRP Sierra Madre, a 100m amphibious vessel built for the US in 1944 and acquired by the Philippine Navy in 1976, grounded in the late 1990s is the first line of defence of the Philippines.

The Philippines´s Secretary Gazmin declared recently that the marines will stay where they are and fight to the last man. “We will fight for what is ours up to the last soldier standing,” he vowed.

Good luck to the Pinoys!

:pop:okay, let´s summarise the situation (source taipeitimes.com):

The Philippines occupies nine of the Spratlys, including Thitu Island (Jhongye Island, 中業島), the second-largest in the area.

The Second Thomas Shoal is a tiny group of islets and reefs about 200km northwest of the Philippine island of Palawan, the nearest major landmass.

Resupply ships take between 36 and 40 hours to reach it depending on the weather.

Eugenio Bito-onon, mayor of the region that oversees the Philippine-held Spratlys, described the shoal as an 8km long, oblong-shaped coral reef that barely rises above the water.

“It sinks at high tide,” Bito-onon told Agence France-Presse.

He said each of the Philippine-held islands were manned by “at most” a dozen marines or navy personnel. Neither Sabban nor Philippine Department of Defense spokesman Peter Galvez would confirm the troops’ exact numbers, nor their weaponry.

However, Galvez said the grounded vessel produced its own electricity generated from its fuel-powered engine, giving the shoal garrison access to indoor entertainment, including movies and video games.

Given the strength and rudeness of Chinese Navy, the Philippines must send more troops as well as naval assets to the shoal, such as this new warship:

That's photoshoped picture. As far as i know their ship only armed with gun, none of them missile-armed.

Nah, the most CN Navy will do is surround the reef, the CN Navy will not fire first.

Like I say a battle is unlikely.
If a battle do break out, those chaps won't need to worry much about fighting to the last man.

This old warship, the BRP Sierra Madre, a 100m amphibious vessel built for the US in 1944 and acquired by the Philippine Navy in 1976, grounded in the late 1990s is the first line of defence of the Philippines.

Philippines stands no chance. Their ships will become corals, and their marines are doomed.
Anyway, that rusted ship is a terrible idea for a base. Those marines are treated like rats by their corrupt and incompetent leaders.

Not a damned thing is gonna happen.....

In a possible naval battle, you never send your most expensive and powerful ship to the front line before actual fighting starts.

I know that.
Aquino is scared. Why would something happen. The Chinese government is not stupid to attack. Only a few militaristic generals would.

Hahahaha nothing going to happen because were too bc with procurement of items for our Phase 1 and Phase 2 and it takes time and ITCLOS to start because unlike china we are not going to attack by force or attack on words so china can say all the crap she wants beside if they attack us its world war 3 everybody's on alert especially US and us and Japan and other claimant countries plus china is on bad lines in terms of economy she will suffer more with a conflict on the works so please attack if you want too its not our country that will suffer more in the end its yours no one likes aggression and the world already sees china as bully even though you guys have been promoting the peaceful rise nonsense nations and people still do not believe your b.s so attacking a defenseless nation would not only destroy your limited credibility but will send china 50 years in the past for it and no amount of nukes or a permanent UN seat will change its still a 1 again many i mean really can you win against that many odds your not serious.

China can wage war in TW if they agree to help VN.to take Itu-aba isl.VN may support China in war against US in TW,not in Phil

smart move by Philippines with US help.
