Sneeuwluipaard gevolgd met gps
Een sneeuwluipaard in Pakistan is uitgerust met een gps om haar bewegingen te volgen. Sneeuwluipaarden zijn solitaire dieren waarnaar het moeilijk onderzoek doen is. Ze zijn erg schuw en jagen vooral ’s nachts. Via de gps-zender hopen wetenschappers meer te weten te komen over de bewegingen en de habitat van de sneeuwluipaard. Er is nu een vrouwtje van 35 kilo gevangen en voorzien van een halsband met gps. Het is de bedoeling dat de komende maanden nog vier sneeuwluipaarden een gps-band omkrijgen. Het onderzoek wordt uitgevoerd door de Snow Leopard Trust, het NWFP Wildlife Department en het Wereld Natuur Fonds Pakistan.

Wild elephants are not there in Pakistan. They are in Corbett park and south Indian parks, apart from some in Sri Lanka (different species, smaller than Indian counterpart).

Wild elephants are extincted from our soil, just like many other wild species. :cry:
Once they lived in the jungles of northern and eastern Punjab.

Second picture shows that its being covered with wet towels, probably a routine check.
But I could aswell be dead, I'm not sure.

Not for the elephants I'm affraid. :cry:

But fortunately the government and international organisations such are funding more and more preservations programmes to protect endangered species for extinctions.
Kirthar Park just north of Karachi is one new project. I've read that many species will be reintroduced in this park including tigers.
 
Cherryblossom can be seen in many parts of northern Pakistan

 
High and steep, Niltar Valley, near Gilgit, is run through with a chain of small lakes and streams that, from the air, look like emerald and turquoise gem stones.
