China was never a colony to gain independence. China was in a civil war and it ended in 1949.

Secondly, China has huge amount of natural resources which is not there in India. India used aluminum vessels and household goods till 1990s due to lack of nickel yo make stainless steel. India has to import oil whereas China was an exporter of oil till 1990s. India has only 40% as much water as China and 35% land as China. India only has coal, aluminum and iron in large quantities but has very little other resources. This is why India can't simply become China. Despite this, India has developed decent amount of technology. That is commendable.

China is a very unique country. Excellent work ethics. Hard working people. Very less corruption. Focused leadership. Excellent use of technology in all fields.

I am a structural designer, working for 10 years now. But today i see Chinese graduate engineers, barely out of university, designing 20 storey towers, I am shocked. I cannot do it. Chinese universities are leaps and bounds ahead of our universities in India.

It's a good thing Chinese don't speak English well, otherwise they would have dominated even in the services sector.

India had the Mig-21, a massive manpower advantage and more artillery. Pakistan had more quality artillery, but less, and slightly more tanks.
