Only in your dream.

look at Soviet Union.

Chinese leadership is in fighting for money now and Inner Mongolian, Ujgur, Tibetan ... will be independent states.

Big china with kido govt in Peking is no good for humankind.

@Rechoice ,

Let's be realistic. The possibility of fractionating of the PRC is next to impossible. The PRC is not the Soviet Union in policy or agenda. Not even close.

You're letting your emotions cloud your judgement. There a host of reasons why other Asians don't develop nuclear weapons programs. Finance is but one of many factors that come into play. Think of the political ramifications. Do you think the US would be supportive of a nuclear Vietnam or would they be willing to turn a blind eye to a Chinese attack that would neutralize the possibility of another nuclear armed Communist state? Try to be objective. As much as Vietnamese people love the US (and in your mind, vice versa), America is a nation that doesn't like to allow others into exclusive clubs, especially something as potentially de-stabilizing as the nuclear club.
Then how would the US prevent VN from becoming a nuclear weapons state ? Diplomacy ? Force ? If VN is determined enough, only force will work. But as long as the US is restrained by the theatrics of diplomacy, if VN is determined enough, VN can be a nuclear weapons state.

VN is not China's Cuba, as in the Cuban Missile Crisis, if VN becomes a nuclear weapons state on her own, whereas with Cuba, it was the Soviets who wanted an ICBM base off America's coast and under Kremlin control. That does not mean China cannot respond in the same manner the US did against Cuba, but it will be much more difficult, diplomatically and practically, because the current VN is much more capable militarily than the Cuba of the 1960s. VN today is much more diplomatically independent than Cuba yesterday. When Cuba was blockaded, and a blockade is an act of war, no one came to Cuba's aid. All of the Americas wanted the Soviet Union out of the Western Hemisphere. For Asia, China cannot leave and China is already regarded as a bully in Asia. That mean all of Asia will have two unpalatable choices: Either be subservient to China, or be in alliance to resist China, militarily and economically. For China, which ever path the rest of Asia go, it will be uncomfortable for China, diplomatically and economically.

And then there are the technical hurdles. Iran is more advanced than Vietnam with regards to their domestic defense industry and even they are struggling to make a bomb. Vietnam, which is a producer of fish sauce and noodles, has quite a high technological hurdle indeed.
VN is already a nuclear state. If Pakistan and India can become nuclear weapons states -- clandestinely -- so can VN.

To address your last point, China isn't trying to occupy anything, least of all parts of the Vietnamese mainland. However, I'm confident that a Chinese strike against Vietnam is a much more viable, less politically risky, and more likely than a China who sits by and lets Vietnam go nuclear unmolested. Maybe it is *you* who should go back to your video games.
If VN decides on a path to being a nuclear weapons state, VN will not be silent about it. VN will explain her justifications and will present arguments as to why other Asian countries are under the same threat from China. Back in the Cuban Missile Crisis, Castro did not bothered to consult with other Latin American states, privately or publicly, as to why Soviet missiles are NEEDED in the Western Hemisphere. Need for what (?) would have been the question.

But for today, it would not be difficult for VN to present her arguments and justifications as to why not just VN but other Asian countries, should and perhaps even need to become their own nuclear weapons states. All these countries have to do is convene a meeting among themselves -- exclude China -- to discuss the possibility of a nuclear alliance and China will be on the alert. What could China do at that time ? Militarily strike at every single country at that conference to teach each a lesson ? For the juvenile Chinese members here, they would answer that -- yes.

No...Of all the people on this forum, I am the least likely to be a video game player and I do not play any video game. I lived through the Cold War and it nuclear politics, in America, Europe, and Asia. I was actually around nuclear weapons, as in being in the same hangar with a Victor Alert F-111E at RAF Upper Heyford in England. I know what is it like to pull a 6g climb in a bomb dive-toss maneuver. I watched the spectacular and ignoble collapse of the Soviet Union. How about you ?

It is the evidence showed off that China is big boy but bad boy, people in the world have to punish him, to force him to be educated and respect rules of international law.

In time of years in 1960s of cold war, no one could have an fantasia idea that USSR is going to collapsed, but it was happent. China is not out of lesson of history of humankind. Rise and fall is common fate of extremist Empires like Holly Roman Empire and Ottoman Empire. and recently it was Soviet Union.

You sound like USSR got what it deserved.

You ungrateful Vietcong, USSR should not have helped you to fight against the US imperialism.

The US wanted independence for Indochina: Viet Nam, Laos, and Cambodia. It was the communists of VN, China, and the Soviet Union who wanted VN to be under Soviet/China imperialism.

U.S., Russia remove potential atom bomb material from Vietnam

By Fredrik Dahl

VIENNA Tue Jul 2, 2013

(Reuters) - The United States and Russia have helped ship out nearly 16 kilograms (35 pounds) of highly enriched uranium from Vietnam as part of a global campaign to reduce the use of nuclear fuel that could also provide material for bombs.

The move - making Vietnam the 11th country from which all highly enriched uranium has been removed in the last four years - was announced during a meeting in Vienna on how to prevent potential bomb ingredients from falling into the wrong hands.

There are about 1,440 tonnes (1 tonne = 1.102 tons) of highly enriched uranium (HEU) and 500 tonnes of plutonium stockpiled and in nuclear arms globally, says the Nuclear Security Governance Experts Group (NSGEG) lobby group. Most of it is under military guard but some for civilian uses is less stringently secured.

Analysts say that radical groups could theoretically build a crude but deadly nuclear weapon if they had the money, technical knowledge and materials needed.

"With this accomplishment (in Vietnam), we will have removed nearly all highly enriched uranium from Southeast Asia," U.S. Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz said. The material, he said, will be downblended into low-enriched uranium to fuel power reactors.

It is very dangerous for a lesser nation who can't recognize its rightful position.

It is condition for providing new enrichten technology for Vietnam from USA. It is not granter that in future we could not develop nuke again.

The time is changed, USA could agree that Vietnam has nuke is best solution for US to facing with aggressive policy of such kiddo govt in Peking.

Vietnam has always have a big dream.
Vietnamese hate China interrupted its big power dream, the Vietnamese like to say, if not Chinese(1979), they had occupied Kampuchea, Thailand, laos.
Vietnam still think himself is Southeast Asia overlord.
Now the bully wants nuclear weapons? More than Chinese, neighboring countries Thailand, Kampuchea, Laos, Malaysia, Singapore, Burma, no one would agree.
I think we should refer to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula negotiations, when necessary, joint sanctions against vietnam.
