CANBERRA: If Australia sells uranium to India, it should sell to Pakistan as well, Pakistan's High Commissioner Abdul Malik Abdullah here told ABC Radio Monday.

On Sunday, Australian Labor government voted to overturn ban on uranium sales to India at the Labor's national conference which Prime Minister Julia Gillard said would boost trade and enhance Australia's relationship with India.

Abdullah claimed that Australia should sell uranium to Pakistan as well, as India has not signed the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), reported Xinhua.

"Now if after the ALP's (Australian Labor Party) decision, if the Australian government is going to change the policy, all we would like to have is an equitable and non-discriminatory decision," he said.

"If Australia is going to lift the ban on a country which has not signed a non-Nuclear Proliferation Treaty, it is hoped it is also applied to Pakistan the same way."

Currently Pakistan has not made any request for uranium from Australia yet, but Abdullah said this may change in the future.

Bharat is not signatory of NPT, hence technically it is proliferation.

Pakistan foreign office is as stupid as ever... tackling the matter in wrong way.

Instead, Pakistan shall go to UN and IAEA. If they not adhere swiftly. Than use this opportunity to sell few nukes to Saudi Arabia.

I wonder why do we pay salaries to our idiot foreign office!!!!

ooooooh nice....im pretty sure ..they know the answer ...
and im pretty sure the Chinese made em say that too.

But nevertheless ..id like to see how Australia/America responds to this.

People asking the question are forgetting the whole NSG waiver that India got...

Maybe because if the foreign service & the government actually followed your recommendation, you might just about achieve the impossible. You are likely to be bombed both by Israel & Iran. What an irony that would be? Pakistan may actually be responsible for better relations between Israel & Iran .

:rofl::rofl:

But who will provide aid to pakistan to buy uranium from australia, even if they agreed to sell uranium to pakistanis???:lol:

If you are unable to observe and understand why pakistan is not getting the same treatment as India, then a million words of explanation will not help. India not signing the NPT is not because we are planning to sell the nuclear know-how to buyers in the open market unlike pakis, it is rather a decison with larger interest of the world. If the High Commissioner still want to know why, let Pakistan release A.Q. Khan and let him go to a nuetral country and he can give a crystal clear explanantion what pakistan govt. and military done with the nuclear tech. know-how. These pakistanis are like our politicians, they always want their rights and more, but never know what their responsibilities are.:disagree:

This reminds of that civil nuclear deal episode. Just when India got the exemption, Pakistan suddenly realised the need to have a similar kinda deal. Leaders in Pakistan needs to instill little bit of esteem to their arguments & shouldn't wait to realise their need when someone else fulfills his own. Not a wise thing to ask for a share of spoil hunted by someone else.

Everybody knows the answer to Pakistan's question. It will be interesting to see how Australia words its response.
